I made a child's dress in Textiles that I didn't even get to keep; the teacher shipped all of the clothes we made to Vietman! Poor kids, the clothes probably fell apart the first time they put them on!
I really enjoyed woodwork as well as the little bit of textiles I did, it was really annoying how we were only allowed one technology for GCSE, that should change IMO. Kids don't know how to do anything manual on the whole, they should do lessons in car maintenance and building etc too, kids who hadn't thought about those jobs may find that they're actually really good and go into that line of work after school.

I didn't know if it would be putting the cart before the horse when I can't even turn on my sewing machine yet!

Yeah but you'll soon be able to! If you like the patterns they're an investment and an incentive!

Should find out about the course in the next 3 or 4 weeks, are you still keen to come too?

Er, I'm still interested, how much was it again? And if we can pay in more than one instalment I'm more interested :D

Congrats on the bargains Dinah! All the charity shops round here seem to be really expensive, especially the books.

Tete, I like your tattoo style! I'm currently planning my name in Khmer (Cambodian writing) in white ink on my wrist. It'd only be about 1.5cm long and it'd look pretty I reckon. Plus, wrists don't tend to change shape like stomachs etc! ;)

I must admit, I'm not a fan of pointless tattoos, if that makes sense. I have a lot of friends who go and get tattoos for the sake of it, and they regret most of them! I have Cambodian family so it means something to me :)

I'm really looking forward to my week in July of playing wifey, planning our meals, learning to sew, keeping house and doing my painting ofc.

Sounds great! You should make yourself a pinny to wear when cooking and painting!

I agree Birdie, I's support my kid doing a GCSE in mechanics or woodwork over one in media or general studies any day of the week!

Dinah - That's a fantastic find! I wouldn't worry about dashing straight back for the patterns, they normally have boxes of them in the back. I have one which I love from the 60s as it has the first owners details on it (sad!) Charity shops are good places for zips (sounds weird, I know) you can get them for about 50p when they cost about £2 from other places.

I'd like to think I'm pretty domesticated! I can cook, bake, sew, knit and I'm pretty good in the garden. My sister calls me Little Bree. :o

ETA: How long did that take me to post? Crikey.

NIM has already asked me to wear one... not sure if this is a kinky thing or a jokey thing :p

£189 (or £185) and you can pay in 3 installments which I think are at the start of each term throughout the year, but don't hold me to when the installments are actually due!

My parents got chatting to a girl on holiday (in Florida, jammy gits!) and she had 'B.A.T.S.' tattooed on her wrist. My Dad asked what it meant and the girl said she'd been in Vegas, very drunk and had been in a bar in the New York New York hotel called 'Bar At Times Square' and they stamped her hand when she left... she'd ended up at the tattoo parlour and told her guy to tattoo the stamp on her wrist- B.A.T.S.!

White ink Zig? That's different, do you have dark skin? It would be like invisible ink on me! I know what you mean, I can't stand Tweety Pies and the like ... and those paw prints on the boobs ... I don't understand?!

I'd love to do one of those mechanics for girls evening classes, I always saw them advertised when I lived in Newcastle but can never find anything round here.

ETA- £65ish per term is manageable I think Dinah :D:D
