I was aware of that simply cos I paid off all the debt from the joint account with the ex, not just half. Doesn't put me off though.

I guess I'm so pro-joint finances as well simply because of the hassle it seems to be having seperate.

And an obscure question. For those of you married, was your OH (or you) nervous to ask the missus dad for permission? And how did they/you do it?

My Dad is quite scary but now hubby took him out to the cinema and for a meal and asked him. My dad asked him if he had a dowery (sp?) hubby thought he ment a diary and it went from there! He asked Dad about 3 months before he asked me, by which time my Dad thought he had come to his senses and changed his mind!:D My Dad was bril at keeping the secret and didn't even tell my Mum (just as well as she would have been right on the phone telling me):rotfl:

By this stage although we had only been together just about a year but my Dad could see how happy he made me. AWwwwww

Ohh all this engagement talk. My OH asked me my ring size a couple of weeks ago which got me all excited haha. He says he is scared to ask my Dad but my Mum and Dad really like him so he would be fine. My mum keeps talking about us having kids when we look at houses and syaing we need to think about them so they obviously see us in the long term. We have been together nearly 5 years!

OH has had premission from my Pa since I was 15! I have a feeling Dad is quite keen to get rid :(
I love a good exclamation mark too!

Ohhh, I know what you mean! I over use them too, tried to cut back but I don't like full stops. Make me seem like a right mardy so and so!

See, can't help myself *insert exclamation mark*

Got a call from OH to say he's won another £160 today with bets. 'Earnt' £360 in the past two days! Yet I can't get him to take me out for tea Friday, I don't like him being on board with MSE anymore.

I think I've actually crossed everything off my to do list, and a NSD too!

That is typical Cinny that he is being all MSE now! Well done to him for those winnings though!

Oooh and Tete, I heard a bit back about the sewing course. You don't need to bring a machine, they're provided but you do need to provide pins and scissors and needles. Oh and you can pay by 3 installments if it helps! It's very basic starting point but by the end you will be able to make your own clothes including alterations, darts, zips, buttons, pleats etc apparently - I'm pretty excited about doing it now!

I know it's a bit late but just finished doing some marking, I am so sleepy that I am now being counter productive. OH and I have always had a joint account I pay all the bill because my wage is a given but he is self employed so his money is for all the extras. However saying that if I have no money we have no money and if he has no money I have no money. He supported me while at uni and college so it swings and roundabout. Oh no I think I am waffling sp? so I best go to bed. Night all.

Morning everyone, hope you're feeling better after a sleep ROTE. I'm shattered today, only had about 6 hours sleep, was up late looking at my Paris itinerary, but think it's all sorted now just need to check it with OH tonight tho he seems happy to just let me get on with it.

Dinah, that course is looking more tempting now definitely! Do you have a link or anything so I can have a read about it? I guess you don't get homework then if you don't need your own machine? My granny might have a spare old pedal powered one somewhere if I ask!

Oh and on the subject of Dad's permission, when my friend's now-husband proposed to her he did it on the spur of the moment so quickly texted her dad, and by the time her dad replied he'd already asked anyway :D Good job he likes him!

Great news about your OH winning so much money Cinny, hope he knows what hes doing with the bets though. Did you (or anyone) see Mary Queen of Charity Shops last night? She did this exercise with the old ladies to improve their selling confidence by getting them selling cupcakes on a market stall - they were the same sort of fancy ones you do and they were selling them for £1.50 - £2, and made £550 in the day! Now I don't know exactly the cost of renting a market stall or the overheads of ingredients and boxes, but I'm guessing that's a pretty hefty profit! I think as long as you get in the right sort of place where people are happy to spend £2 on a cupcake you'll be laughing!

Speaking of which, going to have a read of that thread Zig :)

Just read that thread Zig, thanks! I've been having a good giggle at it, I love the 'Do it for the Grand Slam Don' bit too! And the budgie on the bum! It makes me realise how lucky I was having never walked in on my parents, but I remember my Mum saying that when I was baby we'd had to live with my Nana for about 6 weeks in between houses and she walked in on them a few times- how horrific!
