Well I went for zoom and have mixed feelings as to was worth it. I was lucky enough to have no sesitivity during the process but it soon kicked in last night but a few pain killers and it was gone. I also smoke so I know that a day later it is not as white because I have smoked when they said not to  They gave me a pen to use on my teeth this week at a "bargain £14.99 half price offer" which I took without really wanting it but there you go will have a go tonight and see if it does actually do anything although I doubt it. Now, I know they can be whiter and I went about 6 shades better so I know it worked I shouldn't really moan
BUT she told me that I couldn't have it again as my teeth were actually as white as they will go is this true? I would of thought that seeing as I am now 1 shade under white that another pop at it will see me go that bit better? I wouldn't mind paying for it again or getting the trays from the dentist as I really want to sort my teeth out as my confidence is really bad at the minute although it is improved now they're better. The other plus for me over a salon was they had a dentist checking everyone first and throughout the treatment, I learnt I had a root canal done some years ago and the reason my tooth is black is the mercury silver fillings they used to use. The guys doing the treatment were all trained and very helpful to
I am going to Ibiza in 12 weeks and am on the road to a flat stomach with my lifestyle change I really want to get my teeth white and cron done before I go away so I wont have any hang ups when I get there.
Thanks for the advice to guys you're really good to give up your time to help us for free :beer:0 -
Honestly, the best lifestyle change you can make is to give up smoking. Otherwise you're just throwing good tooth-whitening money after bad ... and that will be followed by lots of other dental bills too!
Someone like Toothsmith will explain how white you can go, and whether anyone can reach the whitest shade, but you're never going to be able to stay there as long as you're smoking.
Sorry if that sounds blunt, but no point not being, IYSWIM.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Thanks for the advice i have already tried loads of times im crap  i will have another go after the summer again i think. And i know plenty of smokers with nice teeth so for now i will continue my quest for the big secret0

You're NOT crap, and I didn't mean to heap guilt on you, btw, but here's a serious suggestion.
If you're prepared to spend money on your teeth, how much are you prepared to pay to give up smoking? I don't know what I have in mind, but if you have a favourite excuse for not being able to give up, then is there something you could do to get rid of that excuse? Maybe "I could give up if I wasn't so stressed" would go to "I would be less stressed if I had a weekly massage, and what I currently spend of cigarettes would pay for that."
The good thing is that there is LOTS of support for giving up smoking now, so hopefully just a question for finding what works for you.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
alot of people are saying (tooth included) that the tray kits are better and last longer (as you can top them up) rather than going for the Zoom which will fade in time and people usually end up getting the trays anyway.
ill be getting my root treatments done first and then go from there.0 -

If you have more time, the home whitening is dependable, very few side effects (You can stop for a while if things get sensitive), and it lasts well.
It's cheaper to just do the home whitening on it's own without the Zoom/Britesmile
Hi Toothsmith,
I'm getting three veneers and a crown done on my front teeth and before I had that work done I wanted to whiten my teeth because obviously these do not whiten with treatment in the future.
I have used the opalescene 10% trays that my dentist gave me and have had really good results, my dentist was impressed. My teeth are still slightly discoloured but I've got a further month left until my treatment so he's given me some more syringes to keep going in the meantime.
My only question is, obviously with getting the treatment done I want my teeth as best as I can now because they won't lighten in the future so was wondering whether it would be worth opting for an alternative in-surgery as well as the tray system (my dentist doesn't do the in-practice one)? Would this have a better overall affect or not?
If so, is zoom probably best?
Many thanks.0 -
No - stick with what you've achieved with the 10% Opalescence.
It's by far the best and longest lasting way to do it.
If you have Zoom on top, and the dentist then matches all your shades to that - It'll look wrong in a few weeks time when the Zoom fades. How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -

OK, will do. Many thanks for the reply.0 -
I've just been discussing tooth whitening with my dentist. He says its a personal choice whether to spend an hour + in front of his machine or have the gum shields made up and use them for approx 3 weeks. The cost for either is £450 (London prices!).
He says the advantage of the gum shields is that topping up is easy and if I do get sensitivity I can have a break from the whitening and use sensodyne pronamel for a day and then continue; but that some people the all in a day treatment is quicker and more convienient.
I am thinking of having this done before having a veneer on a front tooth.
Any comments gratefully appreciated.
That post was November 2007!
Finally decided to go for it. After deliberating whether to have just the veneer or just the whitening, my dentist said to try the whitening first and then I can have the veneer in the future.
So had impressions taken for the trays today!
Apparently the latest is a third option, to have invisiglan orthodontic braces to correct the wonky tooth and you can use whitening gel with them! Too much choice for me to think about another option.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Hi im in bulgaria at the moment back home in the uk on saturday, im having my teeth whitened tomorrow, although i do need 2 veneers at the front of my mouth i guess its better to have them whitened then a few weeks/months later when they have a natural whiteness too them have the veneers done thats what ive been told anyway.
Its costing me £25 for my whole set of teeth to be whitened
I did look at having the invisible brace but it costs a fortune and the results are not as quick as veneers are
