Thanks toothsmith. I'll try that. Where do I get disclosing tablets. And do you think an electric toothbrush would be more efficient?

Most chemists will have disclosing tablets. If you're due at your dentist soon, they will probably give you a packet, as we often get plenty as free samples.

Electric toothbrushes are better (Don't be tempted by the more expensive ultrasonic ones though) Something like a Braun 8500, or the 9500 Triumph if you can afford it. Do yo see a hygienist? It's worth getting the proper technique demonstrated, as it's quite different to using a manual one.

    Good luck!
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

if you want an electric toothbrush - get an oral b Braun 7000 as it's essentially the same brush as the 8500 and the triumph. It has the same brushing speed and holds it charge for 2 week, has a timer and 2 speeds. AND IS HALF THE COST! in fact, Boots are still selling the 7000 for £21 (ish)

electric brushes definatley help reduce staining, so would be worth your while

Are you SURE it's the same speed? My understanding was the 7000 has a speed of 7000cpm (cycles per minute) 8500 was 8500cpm, and triumph is 9500cpm.

There is the ocillating and the pulsating aspect to the cycle.

I must admit, I haven't actually checked these figures though, just taken the rep's word for it (Which isn't always the right thing to do!!)

I would agree though that the 7000 is still an excellent toothbrush. It was after all, top of the range only a few years ago.

nope, your rep is most definatley not correct! the 7000, the 8500 and teh Triumph all have the same speed of 40,000 pulsations per minute and
    8,800 rotary oscillations.
the only difference is things such as the digital display on the Triumph and the extra/different heads in the 8500 box.
That's why they stopped supplying the 7000 with a head holder and travel case - so people would be more impressed and enticed by all the gadgetry included with the 8500 and Triumph.
my Oral B rep doesn't like me much because i always have this arguement with her and refuse to stock the Triumph because of the grotesque price difference! :rotfl:

    7000 it is then!

I refuse to stock any of them, as I'm fed up of having Comet sell them for cheaper than I can buy them!!!

Gum disease can normally be treated in any country. It needs good deep cleaning from a hygienist or dentist, good toothbrushing and care from the patient, regular reviews and hygienist/dentist visits, and stopping smoking (If the patient does).

    No magic.

    Just hard work.

If you have heard of some one off fix-and-forget cure, then it's a lie!

that is a problem, however i find there is a moderate percentage of patients who when you recommend something to them will want to buy it there and then (particularly blokes) as it saves them 'the hassle' of going to a shop and means they will start to use it immediately.
