I've moved this thread over to the 'Health & Beauty' board for you. Hope that's okay.
Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. Yeah and you pay for advice too they all use the same stuff you just need to be careful with the strength of the gel and how much and how often you use it
What a careless post.
DON'T buy bleaching gel from ebay.
I badly burned my gums after buying gel from there thinking that I could save a bit of money. It could have been anything that some nutcase had put in that syringe, I was lucky that I managed to get it off pretty quickly so not too much damage was done.:smileyhea "here, hare, here" :smileyhea0 -
NEVER buy stuff like that from ebay. As everyone else says, you never know where it's been or what it is!"Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, But beautiful old people are works of art."

Hi I know there are many length threads on this subject but I am hoping for a fairly swift answer.
I am having some lower teeth bleached with a view to replacing two crowns to match the new shade. I am using 15% carbemide (?) and the tray, made by my dentist.
She has told me to wear the tray overnight, but I have to say the sensitivity is v. painful and nearly sending me mad! Taking masses of painkillers to cope with it and they barely take the edge off it.
Anyway, was wondering if anyone knew if the bleach itself works for say a limited time eg. three hours?? in which case I may be better wearing it during the day for that amount of time. I am just looking for anyway to decrease the pain. Am currently using Sensodyne and Gel-Kam on dentist advice. They dont seem to help that much and the whole thing is getting me down, even though it will be worth it in the end!!!(I hope)
I would ask my dentist but it is difficult just to speak to them on the phone as they are so busy, so I am hoping Toothsmith may spot my post, or someone who has used this system themself.

Can they swap it for the 10%? Might be better for you.
Stop using it for a few nights 'till things calm down.
You really should be able to get back to see your own dentist quickly if problems like this strike.
The gel is probably only active in the tray for about 4 hours. It needs a minimum of 2h to penetrate far enough to do any good.
But I would just lay off it altogether for a little while, and get back to see your dentist. How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
You could wear it during the day for 1-2 hours and get the same effect, it is only recommended to do it at night as most people find this more convenient. The sensitivity will only last as long as the agent is used so no long term sensitivity is involved. hth0

Thank you so much for your reply. I am going to try using it during the day for four hours and see how it goes. I kept it in for about 4 hours last night and woke up and took it out and I have no sensitivity (well v. little in comparison) today. Maybe 4 hours is the magic trick!!!:DGrocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

I used 15% every other day for two hours at a time for about two weeks last year. I found that that suited me best and I hardly had any pain at all.:smileyhea "here, hare, here" :smileyhea0
