I see as in sweets, odd name for the product really, I guess it is from pearly white. Sometimes I do have lots of threads open and post in the wrong one but not sure anyone notices. Night, off to brush my teeth:D

On a slightly different subject, what are your views on Fluoride in toothpaste?

One of the best public health measures ever.

The flouride free stuff is really just for the cranky market. (Ducks for cover :p )

Avoid those smokers toothpastes as well - they're just sandpaper in a paste. Pearl Drops used to be very abrasive as well, but it is OK since they re-formulated it.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

LOL cranky :rotfl: One of the "claims" was that too much Fluoride can lead to "fluorisis" - though I typed Fluoride into google and found that apparently fluorisis is only an issue in developing teeth (children then... hence the advice about a pea-sized amount) and it is supposed to reverse the effects of the decay bacteria. So it looks like Fluoride is beneficial to adults so what on earth was the quack in the health shop rabbiting about

There are , in my opinion, legitamate concerns about some of the things we are exposed to.

There are also things that are harmless, and there are things that are good for us.

The trick is being able to differentiate between them, and that is not easy at all.

The internet has to a degree made it easier in terms of access, but in the main made it much much harder. There is no 'policing' of the stuff on the internet, and so fake science can look just as convincing - if not more convincing - than the rather dry and boring proper scientific sites.

You are right about flourosis. It can occur in developing teeth if exposed to a LOT more fluoride than they should be.

Generally kids need to be sucking toothpaste out of the tubes on quite a regular basis for this to happen.

The benefits of a fluoride toothpaste far outweigh any potential overdose risks.

That was the biggest load of b*lloks I've read this year! :p

Does it not occur to anybody that if a dentist could get away with whitening teeth with a torch (Nomatter what bulb was in it) they wouldn't spend several thousand quid on the proper equipment?

I am not a big fan of 'power whitening' with lights anyway, but in the proper setting, they do produce results. How long those results last for though is questionable

This stuff is just a scam.
