  • You have to be aware of what you eat for a few days after you get it done. So do not have it done just before you go on holiday! Things to avoid are anything tomarto based, red wine, black coffee. Not forever but about 5 days, so if you get it done on a Monday you can have what you like by the weekend.

I read it that dj WAS getting it done by the dentist.

I would echo Youngie's comments if that isn't the case.

Has the smoking stopped now dj?

If it hasn't then I would think long & hard about this treatement. It won't be long before the newly white teeth are nicotine brown again, but with two bright crowns sticking out like a comedy bunny!

Plus, if you are still smoking, it won't be long before they all fall out anyway, and then you can spend the money on nice white dentures!!!

    QUIT THE FAGS!!!
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.
  • can someone please tell me if this is true or not?

Teeth whitening widens the pours in your teeth so stains can collect in the pours more easily

    Not true.

Some of the dodgier whitening kits remove the surface layer of enamel, and the stuff underneath would stain more easily, but tooth enamel doesn't have 'pores' in it.

    toothsmith your a gem. thanks.

think i will give up the smoking before i go for the whitening treatment. realise i will be wasting my money.

there is a dentist that is offering the service for just over £500 but i thought that was a bit pricey so i looked at one of those smile clinic places that offer it at £180. so i was tempted at this but i think i will quit the fags altogether and then do it with the cash i save.

    thanks once again

    One other point.

If you do get it done by one of these whitening clinics (That are operating outside the law, as anything that involves doing something inside the mouth requires a qualified and registered dentist.), your dentist may be reluctant to change the crowns to match the new shade.

If he isn't involved with the colour-changing process, he will not be sure how stable the result will be, and so might not be happy about doing something permanent to other teeth in order to match it.

As you say though, the money you WILL save when you give up smoking will more than pay the extra cost of getting it done by your dentist.

    Good luck!

P.S. My sister always used to count in 'sleeps' until a big event too!!! :D

PPS How much quicker will that house be yours for keeps if you put half your fag money into the mortgage!?

  • :D does Blue Light Teeth Whitening home kits do they work or are they are just a con ?
  • I think other posts on here have said they don't do anything as there isn't enough power or Strong enough whitener unlike what you get from a dentist ,and you need to be careful what you are using if you are buying over the net from overseas as this stuff may not be right for you :)

The blue light ones are a complete waste of time.

May as well shine a torch on your teeth.
