Advice on Teeth Whitening Discussion Thread

My daughter also use the opalescence and to prepare herself against sensitivity before treatment she cleaned her teeth with sensitive toothpaste for 3 weeks beforehand. During her treatment she also used a sensitive gel that came in a syringe like the opalescense which she got from dentist.net. I don't know if your dentist sells that but she said it was really good, my daughters dentist told her to just put a sesitive toothpaste in the trays for a couple of hours if she got sensitive so I don't know if the gel works relatively the same or better but it helped my daughter anyway. My daughter probably isnt as badly sensitive as you though but it may be worth a try. She also had been on minocyclin for 2 years too so we werent sure if some of the yellowing was from that either but it took longer than she thought it would to get a nice colour. She got used to it first by doing at least 1 hour a day up to 2 hours then she was able to sleep in the trays and it took prob 4 weeks. They arent brilliant white but they are not yellow they are her natural white colour. She made the mistake of slightly overfilling the trays which lead to gum irritation and pain but once she got this right there was no problem at all
I have used the Opalesence Tres White take home bleaching quite a few times out of all the OTC products this one works best, however its no match to in office laser bleaching like Zoom 2.

On the 'booking' bit of the website, it states that '2, 3 or 4 sessions may be needed, and each will "only" cost £250.'
So you could easily be charging some people £1000 to get their teeth whitened?
And this is by a dentist is it? Or a hairdresser/beauty therapist/nail technician who has done a weekend course where you ommitted to tell her that she would be taking part in the 'illegal practice of dentistry' as defined by the Dentist's Act of 1984?
With the overheads of a small room in a sports club, or cheaper still if you go round to someones house - without the same regulations as a dental practice, and obviously not using staff with anywhere near the qualifications of dental staff, I think you have a flaming cheek charging MORE for your treatments than the average dental surgery.
And then to pretend it's cheaper!!!!0 -
Well I find it makes my teeth feel cleaner, so for me it works enough for me to want to buy it. I just use it whenever I feel like an extra clean. My mum was also a fan
Well, I've been using it for about 3 weeks now and I like it. It does make my teeth feel like I've just been to the dentist.
Mind you there is too much packaging for a small tube0 -
any ideas.
thanx

OK, I will probably get told off for this as I'm sure it can do more harm than good (due to the acid) and I'm certainly NOT going to tell you I recommend it in order to whiten your teeth only -but - I have half a lemon squeezed in a pint of water every morning and this seems to have made a big difference to any yellowing that I used to have on my teeth. I have been using a cheap whitening toothpaste for several months (from ALDI), but since I've been drinking the lemon / water I've noticed a big difference.
I really don't think you should even consider using lemon juice neat as it is highly acidic, though.0 -

I think the little tin of powder for smokers is supposed to be good at removing stains - is it Eucryl?:happylove0

I think it's quite abrasive though................and may harm your teeth if used on a regular basis.;) You don't want to end up with sensitive teeth........or worse.
No offence is intended to anyone here...............but maybe the OP should wait for advice from Toothsmith or Teerah before they try any 'Old Style' options.

This comes under 'beauty' really so I'll move it to the health and beauty board to see if you'll get more response there.
That's a nice white grin you've got there, Tru!May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
I saw reference to Bicarb of soda (baking powder) earlier. I use it once or twice a week and find it brilliant at getting rid of coffee/wine yellowing. I wonder if long term use damages gums? Thks if you can answer.
Answer from Toothsmith -No - it's fine!
