is there a limit to how white you can get your teeth? Can anyone make there natural teeth as white as tom cruises?0

When I had my teeth whitened my dentist recommened aiming for 3/4 shades lighter than my teeth were. This worked well and lots of people commented on the difference. Too much looks really unnatural.0

How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -

I buy from dentist.net all the time, and can highly recommend them. Don't worry about it being in dollars, they will add on the shipping costs for the UK and the amount will appear on your credit card statement in sterling.
I have just bought 9 syringes (3 x 3 packs) of Excel nite white 16%, and it has cost, including shipping, £39.93. Delivery is usually about 10 days.

PS. Toothsmith, if you're reading this, it's not all for me, I share it with a friend! :rotfl: Have taken on board your comments about not bleaching too much
Hi SparkyG
After reading the "interesting article" that Toothsmith put a link to, I just wanted to make sure that the 16% that you use, hasn't irritated your gums ever?
The 15% that I have used, did once for some reason but I washed it off straightaway, not sure why it only happened the once.
I've been looking at dentist.net, trying to find the one you buy, does it contain hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide?

Hi Foxlady
I also read that article in the paper on Monday, and Toothsmith is quite right to warn people to be wary of buying bleaching supplies from the internet. But as he says, he is not going to 'name' any particular suppliers or products as being unsafe, as that means by implication some are ok, and as a professional he's not going to give advice online
I have shown the Excel Nite white to my dentist, and he has confirmed that the ingredients are exactly the same as the syringes he sells, and that Discus Dental is a reputable US company. Also, I accompanied a friend to her very posh upmarket cosmetic dentist in Bath, the other week, and when he commented on my teeth, I told him what I was using. Guess what? He supplies the same product to his patients:D
The 16% gel does not irritate my gums, but irrtitation is often due to poorly fitting trays or using too much of the product. My dentist told me initially to only use a small drop in each tooth indentation, and when the trays are in place, to wipe away any excess which gets squeezed to the top.
The Excel Nite White contains Carbamide Peroxide. It also has Amorphous Calcium Phosphate, ACP, which is excellent for preventing sensitivity. My dentist had never heard of that, but the 'posh' Bath cosmetic dentist knew exactly what it was, and was very approving:j
Hope you can find the product I use on the dentist.net site. I tried to do a link, but it's copy protected. It's called: Excel Nite White ACP 16% mint. The order I submitted on 10/10/06 arrived on 23/10/06, and included a free Crest toothbrush;)

Do you think its worth getting the 2 boxes of 3 syringes then adding on the extra 3 at a discounted price making it 9? It says expiry date 12/07 so I'm just wondering if all those would be used up by then. How many do you think approx for first getting teeth to a nice white baring in mind my daughters are not really that bad. I just thought she would have to top up a bit about every 2 years or so and then not need as much solution as the first time. I know she wouldnt like to make it too regular.
Is the excel one ok at not glooping about from the trays too as I was looking at the opalescence aswell which says it stays put better, just not sure which oneThanx

I would think that 9 syringes to be used in just over a year is probably a bit too much. I went for the special offer as I share them with a friend.
Initially, I bleached every day for 14 days (as instructed by my dentist), so that would use 2 and a half syringes (6 doses in each one). I then get through about 1 syringe every 2 months or so for topping up.
i find the Nite White thick enough not to squeeze out too much. It is the same thickness as the gel originally supplied by my dentist. Absolutely no difference at all, except that it tastes a bit nicer!
