The nhs charge for a biteguard for grinding ranges from around £70 in Scotland to £177 in Wales to £ 209 in England.

£30 would hardly cover just the laboratory fee! Most private charges would be £75 upwards ish.

These days hospitals mostly refer people straight back to dental practices to have a guard made.

Teeth whitening technicians are making custom made trays from £25 and the reviews state they are as good as the dentists.

No wonder, the dentist sends the impressions to a lab where a dental technician makes the custom made retainers/trays. :j

I doubt any dentist would be fine with an unqualified person applying an unknown chemical to the oral tissues of a patient of theirs.

My teeth are perfect, thanks. :)

Absolute rubbish. We are talking about a biteguard or bite raising appliance which is a completely different type of thing to a whitening tray. There are many, many types of bite guards, made out of different materials ranging from ni tss aplliances to chrome cobalt appliances, all of which need careful adjustment to the bite and reviews to make sure of fit and function.

Highly, highly illegal. No one other than dentists are allowed to take impressions of peoples mouths, no one other than a damas registered laboratory working to ce standards is allowed in the UK to make trays and they are not allowed to supply direct to the public. There is a whole load of paper work to ensure patient safety relating to laboratories and to ensure this by law every patient should be offered a statement of manufacture to show any lab work has been manufactured in the right , hygienic way.

If you have not worked as a dental technician recently you may not be aware of the massive changes in legislation regarding dental labs, lab work and registration of dental technicians with the gdc.
  • Thanks for the tip ... its really useful for me ..;-)
  • What an interesting thread. I've enjoyed reading the last 15 pages or so.

I do think i've seen some of the posts somewhere before though.

The wonderful american dr's cv rings a bell. I do believe it has been quoted by several of the illegal whitening companies very recently.

I'm sure one of the illegal whitening ladies stated that he was her uncle.

So would you please post those ingredients?

You seem to know what it isn't, but not what it is!

Surely someone as concerned for safety as you wouldn't put something unknown on your teeth?

The ingredients were on the packaging, which have since been discarded.

I know it did not include perborate, carbamide peroxide, peroxide or bicarb.

Pleasant experience, no side effects and treatment took 25 minutes.

    Nice result.
