I'm sure others are making their own minds up.How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
Jasper go ahead. See what happens and when you are successfully prosecuted for illegal practice of dentistry - NOT for type of whitening gel used the rest of us can sit here smugly saying I told you so. You are so vehemently anti what we say that you clearly had your mind made up before you started posting. You prefer hearsay and random people's opinions to documented facts. So be it it. You take your chances. You may whish to note I have not commented on the legality of any of the choices of materials other than to say I do not believe any involving a light work. I have maintained with references that doing any procedure on an individual in their mouth, cosmetic or otherwise - is only legal if you are registered with the gdc. It has nothing to do with the house of lords and is not specifically to do with teeth whitening. It's the dentist act! Sure people do it but I bet many are either not aware of the law. Hell drug dealing is illegal but people still do that! The gdc are a pretty poor show in my opinion but they have at least started to move on this. They have thousands of reports of illegal dentistry and they are indeed investigating and planning to prosecute. As far as the law goes they are pretty open shut cases. I can see you don't care what we say. This isn't opinion though. If your opinion was you think the gdc was wrong we would respect it but it isn't. You are dressing up your posts by claiming you just are voicing opinion. You have been warned and you can listen to it or not0

And excuse me, were the hell did you get that I am doing it from?!
cant you read?LBM: April 2009 - honest debt figure: Secured: £0.00!! (paid back april 2017) unsecured: £53117.48 (roughly) back with CCCS starting again:(0 -
You may want to read this http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/Dentists-Tooth-Whitening-Can-Damage-Teeth/Article/20071131293614?lpos=Home_Article_Related_Content_Region_10&lid=ARTICLE_1293614_Dentists%3A_Tooth_Whitening_Can_Damage_Teeth at least someone knows the law... quote "At the North London Epilation Clinic, the technician seemed well versed in the law.
"You are supposed to be a dentist to do any of this. The only way you can get insurance to do this is if we don't touch anything that goes in your mouth. You do it yourself. All you do is hire the machine from us. So it's all sort of loopholes."
But the Department of Health considers teeth whitening as dentistry. And the General Dental Council says giving instruction on dental procedures also falls foul of the Act."
but just in case you don't here is a snippet........The British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology said only dentists should whiten teeth. It is helping trading standards officials to bring prosecutions against clinics who break the law.
This represents 15,000 beauticians and the association stopped supplying insurance to beauty therapists doing whitening some years ago. The Insurances that are still offered by dodgy whitening "training", insurance such as the Irish association , becomes invalid as soon as someone does something illegal in the UK eg assessing someones mouth or carrying out a proceedure in the mouth.
NB from the salon geeks forum the consensus is beauticians etc should not be carrying out this proceedure .http://www.salongeek.com/biz-geek/135952-average-joe-sued-doing-teeth-whitening.html I hope you read the next part of the thread about no one being interested about prosecutions..... the bit where the lady had to have root treatment because illegal whitening killed her tooth off.0 -
yes and if you go to page 3 on that post on Salon Geek, you will see the info that I saw on there from someone who said her friend reported it to the GDC and the GDC replied we cant do anything about it.
read page 3 of that link you sent. I have already seen it.LBM: April 2009 - honest debt figure: Secured: £0.00!! (paid back april 2017) unsecured: £53117.48 (roughly) back with CCCS starting again:(0 -
Did you read the post below about someone having root treatment because illegal whitening killed off her tooth. All she got was a refund!!! If the person was properly indemnified that sort of injury should have been compensated more.... a private root filling will cost hundreds followed by a crown in due course , and taking into account the shortened life span of the tooth.
If associations representing beaticians are saying it's illegal to do it and co operating with prosecutions ( three more going through this month I believe) It would appear they are worried about the publics health.
Your friend uses bleach, she uses a chemical that produces hydrogen peroxide, she carries out a proceedure that is illegal according to the GDC, trading standards, the department of health, The British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology, amongst many others and using a technique the the EU has sought scientific advice on and is set to ban and the best defence you have is loads of others are doing it, haven't been prosecuted yet, have made loads of money from it and a ten year old ruling from the house of Lords since superceeded by a test case? Do you think an outsider reading this would think your friend has her clients best interests at heart?0 -
I wonder how this persons husband would have felt if he read this thread first? From salon geek
" A client of mine has just had a problem with laser tooth whitening. She was left in severe pain and her dentist said a nerve had been damaged and she has had to have root canal treatment. She did manage to get a refund from the clinic which was in Milton Keynes.
The irony of it is that it was a birthday gift from her husband and what she really wanted was pmu eyeliner because she likes mine. However her hubby refused to pay for it because he thought it was risky ! "0 -
dont patronise me, I have completely read the thread from start to finish. so dont keep spouting quotes at me ok?!
As for you saying my friend has not got her clients best interests at heart, that is alot of c***. my friend is a very very genuine person who wants to look after her clients and has got a good relationship with all of them.
You dont know her like I do, we have grown up together and she is a very genuine person. always has been.LBM: April 2009 - honest debt figure: Secured: £0.00!! (paid back april 2017) unsecured: £53117.48 (roughly) back with CCCS starting again:(0 -
None so blind as those that can not see.
jasper we are going around in circles. You claim you are voicing an opinion. That opinion is that I dont care what the GDC say I am going to do it anyway because my friend is a genuine person who would never want to hurt anyone (I paraphrase). I am sayting it doesnt matter what chemical you are using, the law states you can not apply it because you have to be a dentist or a gdc registrant working on a prescription from a dentist as long as it is within your scope of practice. Doing so is an offence that can be prosecuted.
What do you not get from that?? You keep saying they arent interested despite there being a prosecution and more in the pipe line. Do you think its acceptable to willfully break the law "because the regulators arent interested"?
I do love your dont patronise me comment. Like you havent been doing that to us from the start???? Pot Kettle eh??0
