Advice on Teeth Whitening Discussion Thread

I know its not just a laser kat I just think you need to lower your expectations a tad. 30 mins of light and gel whitening will give you bright white teeth because they will be dehydrated not because they have whitened. I say that not just from knowledge and courses but from the multitude of people I know that had the same thing done and said a week or so later they were back to normal. The light is a waste of time and if you want whitening to work and last you need the custom trays and gel that you take home. There isnt a quick fix IMHO0

also the "selling" practitioner is going to say it works well because they are selling it0

Absolutely right! All the current research shows that
A) lights make absolutely no difference whatsoever.
power whitening alone can will only provide a short term result because of the way it works. 30 mins is simpltonot long enough to remove the deep stain particles within the enamel for a long lasting effect.
Read the abstract about deep bleaching by dr rod kurthy, an American dentist who has been researching tooth whitening for the last 15 or so years and you may begin to understand why any dentist worth his salt will recommend home whitening for a long lasting stable result.
Ps the only reason dentists still use the light is because they've paid some extortionate amount of money for it in past (before realising that it was useless), so they use it to make the procedure look more flashy.
If only they'd bought a lightbulb with a blue coloured filter, they could have saved £100's.0 -
I went to a lecture to top up my knowledge of whitening. The expert said it was very important to use the lights.
Because otherwise people who have fallen for the hype will think your treatment is inferior :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Seriously the lights are pointless and incredibly bright I wouldn't want to wear sunglasses around them, I would want total blockouts. Heat may have an effect but unless it can be controlled precisely I don't want people cooking my tooth pulps thank you very much.

I bought Crest 3D Whitestrips Stain Shield, 42 Strips, 3 Week Supply for £19.95 GBP plus p&p from Discount Health Products in Nov.2010. The product was useless and didn’t whiten my teeth so I contacted Discount Health Products re the money back guarantee that was offered for dissatisfaction with the item
In Dec they told me they will need the UPC and copy of receipt to process the refund so I emailed them a copy of the receipt and barcode as requested.
After I did this they then asked “Did you happen to save the box? The manufacturer wants the original barcode from the box for the refund”. I started to feel that they didn’t want to refund me but I then sent them the actual barcode from the box(I scanned a copy before doing so) from the UK to the USA.
A few weeks later I enquired about receipt and they tell me they got my letter but the barcode wasn’t enclosed so I can’t have the refund. I’m 100% certain the barcode was enclosed as I cut it out at the post office counter and weighed it there checking the weight with the cashier in order to ascertain cost of postage.
I feel the company misled and lied to me and never intended to process a refund and recommend they’re not trusted. I’d never use them again0 -
It is illegal to sell these strips in the UK so there is no way the manufacturer of a genuine product would refund on an illegally sold product. So the only people who would refund you are the illegal suppliers of a genuine or counterfeit product.
The sale of these strips is illegal in the EU ,NZ and I think Australia so perhaps expecting a genuine product or good customer service may be expecting a little much.0 -
Hi,
I want to buy a 3-pack of Nite White ACP 22% (I have used 16% before, given to me by my dentist, and know it works). I was looking to buy from either discounthealthshop.co.uk or crestwhitestrips; however, I know that some people have bought this product and found that the gel has past its expiration date and is consequntly useless.
Has anybody had such a problem with this product from either of these two websites, or is the product they're selling genuine and within the expiration date?
Look forward to hearing your responses.

Its illegal to sell these products in the Uk ,EU NZ and Australia. Hence I wouldn't expect great things, in terms of the product or service from people who are breaking the law selling anything like this.
Ps this was posted today on another thread . This complaint will have got nowhere because genuine manufacturers will not supply direct to UK as it's illegal to .

Basically, unless you are buying Crest Whitestrips from a reputable chemist in the US, you have no way of knowing if the product is genuine or not. I wouldn't risk money on a product that at best may be a rip off because it's fake, or at worse could cause damage to my teeth. Also, I wouldn't let a beauty therapist anywhere near my teeth, anymore than I would let him/her treat me for a medical illness.
I have been using Pearl Drops Hollywood Smile polish - the one that is sparkly blue - for a couple of weeks. This is about £3 in supermarkets. It is the only whitening product that has made any difference, including other Pearl Drops products. I can see my teeth look noticably whiter and look shinier. I am not sure what the dentists on here think of it, but I would say it is worth a try. It is often on half-price deals too.0 -
If you have limited funds and you want to whiten your teeth, you could try the remedies here.
I have only tried one myself.
They are mostly referring to food grade hydrogen peroxide 3%.
Be sure to carefully read the pros AND cons - this is the most sobering :
"Just wanted to comment on the posts regarding the use of H202 for teeth whitening. Everyone is different and as such will yield varying results, however caution must be used. Personally I do not think it is a good idea to use H202 on a daily basis as you will kill off the good bacteria in your mouth. This could lead to "black tongue" syndrome which is not a pleasant thing. H202 is serious stuff which can yield good and bad results if not respected for its inherent power. We are all different, experiment SLOWLY when using this stuff. Whats good for one is not good for all....."
I am a big fan of oil pulling - got excellent results after just a couple of weeks. (Actually needed to re-mineralise)
Not all these questions are answered; and I think you should read advice with a critical eye - use common sense to draw your own conclusions as to what is right (and safe) for you.
NB : None of the above replaces the need for regular visits to a good dentist. (Think mine will be pleasantly surprised.)
