To answer another posters question , you will not find an "official supplier" supplying to the public as it is illegal to do so in the EU,Australia and New Zealand.
Anyone supplying whitening products to the public or beauty salons is doing so illegally which is why there is high turnover of these companies.

We (the dental practice I work in) have been informed just this week that the dental supply company we use have stopped all sales of tooth whitening products with more than 0.1% Hydrogen Peroxide.
Background is that the company is being investigated by Trading Standards for supplying these kits to a dentist. With the Company Secretary being interviewed under caution, their letter states that "it is highly likely" that the matter will be taken to court.

So it seems that as the law stands, dental professionals are at risk of being prosecuted under the Consumer Protection Act 1987. (There is a 4 page legal research note from the company's lawyers explaining why no-one in UK should be using or supplying whitening products).

The GDC do not seem to be aware of this, or at least, have not put warnings on the website. Dental professionals that use a different supply company will probably be unaware of the situation so spread the word to any dental colleagues who use or supply whitening products - they may want to think again!

Actually there is due to be a statement today by a minister clarifying the situation , it is expected that whitening will be under medical devices directive so dentists only.

Apparently re trading standards the complaint was a patient of a corporate who had some dropped on some clothing.

Dental directory is expected to launch legal advice. Many of thew other suppliers have been contacted by trading standards and are still supplying dentists or supplying below 18%.

My medical protection company are still happy to idemnify at the moment.

It seems dentists and legit dental supply groups have to bend over backwards but any numpty in a shopping centre or with a dodgy website is above the law and can harm people with impunity.

personally I dont think "laser" whitening works. They will give you "top up trays" to wear for a couple of weeks and these are basically stock versions of the custom ones I usually recommend ... stock means ... not fitted to you so therefore not as good. Best person to ask is your own dentist what they use.

I think you can get the same results at home - as long as you use it regularly. My daughters teeth are super white and she tops up every week

I booked this and will be very unhappy if this is just a home kit! I actually called the dentist to check that it wasn't a home kit and that it was done in the chair and whitened in 'one session' and they told me it was. The actaul cost of this 'laser' treatment is nearly £550 (lmao) so I cant imagine this is an 'inferior' treatment.

My own dentist charges £350 for the whitening treatment so I thought this at £129 was a bargain.

My understanding is that it is a carbamide treatment that is speeded up with lasers.

......unless you know different??? If so please let me know.
Do you KNOW that they give you whitening trays? Or are you assuming? If so I going to get my money back. :(

Kat you may not be able to imagine it being inferior but I have the benefit of a deeper knowledge of the process and additional training. Most of the advice I am given (independent) is that "laser" - not normally a laser its normally a light - is not better nor as long lasting as custom tray and gel whitening. They normally HAVE to give top up trays as the single session does not do enough .... which means you would have been better off with custom trays in the first placed. £129 is only a bargain if it works
