Best times for reductions in supermarkets

I can only say - don't go with 2 small children (ie both under 4). One I can cope with but 2 make it hard to concentrate and I end up either forgetting 1/2 what I came for (it's on the list but Ican't face going back to the aisle it's on) or getting too much stuff.
Go when you're not hungry (or thirsty - once came out with a huge variety of drink, alcoholic and non) so you won't be so tempted by stuff.:o
If poss. don't go to ASDA on a thursday, friday evening or on a saturday - the place is a complete rammy.
Don't know about the deals though - I only ever see reduced stuff I don't want. My mum's an expert though."You can't get a cup of tea big enough or a book long enough to suit me." - C.S. Lewis0 -
Shop once a week for main items(around £40), then allow myself £3 a day for extras that i pick up as and when needed.
Hoping to cut the daily thing out with better meal planning.
I do lidl on a sat afternoon it is never too busy, and do tescos for bits and bobs a 3.30 when kids at after school clubs, not busy at all.Proud to be DEBT FREE AT LAST0 -

Hello Peem  :hello:
Snap! I've got 2 under 4 too! Fern girl 3.5yrs & Keir boy 1.10yrs What about yours?
I agree I don't go shopping with 2 on my own! Little boy likes shopping but hates sharing trolley seat with sister - tries to hit her round the head!!
I also agree about Thursday/Friday/Saturday as well - wherever I shop (Sainsburys/Tesco/Somerfield) it's awful especially Saturday!
Like your sig too - what does the 'days to stick to your diet' mean? Is it number of days you're sticking to your diet or number of days until you stick to your diet?
Also about your location - I lived in Edinburgh for 2.5 years and loved it! Where do you come from and where are you based now?
Is it rude to ask your age? It's just seems to me we've got a bit in common...:)You should never call somebody else a nerd or geek because everybody (even YOU !!!) is an"anorak" about something whether it's trains, computers, football, shoes or celebs:rotfl:

so so true.
i buy LOADS of junk food/impulse buys if i go shopping when i'm starvingI don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

i generally go on a tuesday when i'm in ton anyway with my mum. and do an online shop begining of month for main bulk item's. not really worked out like that this month tho. buti dotry tostay away for as long as i can otherwise i buy stuff i don't need.
my 2 children are 3 ( last week) and 16 months. if i go shopping about half 8in morning we have a fab time, both kids full of energy and really helpful. any later in the day and they are starting to get tired or hungary and then start to get irritable.0 -
I generally go on a Friday morning (am at home on maternity leave at the moment so am taking advantage of not haveing to go at the weekend or late night!); I plan my "menu" for the week ahead then write my list on Wednesday and Thursday. So just a weekly shopping list, but some things last longer than this of course
I like the idea of leaving one extra day before going to the supermarket each week but will maybe have to try it when I have enough in to last the whole weekend as I don't want to go on Saturdays!0 -
I try stretching it out as long as possible by using what I have in the house, I may top up with bits (butter, milk etc) from the local shop to save me having to do a proper shop. If I have to go to a supermarket I always find that I spend more.
My ex used to want to go shopping everyday which totally drove me INSANE  He would go in to a main supermarket just because we needed milk and then end up buying loads of crap that we didn't need (always spending over £15!). I once caught him with 3 dessert options in his basket and nothing for the main meal, he was a totally senseless shopper.
I also find that shopping with a list (after thinking about what meals I can do for the week) helps loads. If my fella and/or my daughter come it costs more so I try to plan it for when that are not there! We’ve had to remove your signature. Meant to hit the quote button instead of thanks.
Anyway I'm guessing at things which won't spoil and that somtimes works out cheaper if you buy more, such as loo rolls, kitchen rolls, washing powder, tea, coffee.
You do of course need to pay more in the first place, but overall you pay less.0 -
Generally do 1 main shop every 8 weeks for meat/fish and poultry at Asda/Sainsburys. We wait till about 8pm and then get most items yellow stickered. Generally spend about £60-this is all main meals sorted and are normally items which are free range and organic.
Top ups are done normally locally at Lidls which include fridge, fruit and veg.
If OH goes to the local Sainsburys about 9pm he can normally pick up some excellent dscounts for literaly pennies. He will pick up main meal offers when he can as we have a huge freezer, which is full to brim ATM.
All items like washing powder, loo rolls, coffee, tea etc are bought from Makros when they have good offers.
Last couple of months though we have been shopping every other week at Waitrose and using vouchers as they accept any with no limits. So doing a £35 spend has cost us maybe £10.
When we see bread or milk reduced we buy and freeze.
Have just done a list of food in the freezer and we have enough food to last 2-3 months minumum, longer if planned well.
