My OH's son works p/t in the evenings for Tesco (Poole Extra) and they do a 20% reduction around 5pm , then another 80% off around 8pm. They always seem to do the fruit and vegetables first, then the meat and ready meals after that.

Asda Greenhithe , Got a load of bread at 22p a loaf (4 loafs) and made two huge bread puddings. One for my sister (she helps me out a lot) and mone fome my house. Will alst a week or so including bit with lunch.
Find ASDA Sittingbourne has some good deals on a Wednesday Morning. Normally on dented tins. Load of Heinz tins last week for 12p each. Ideal for stews etc.0 -
I got looooads of bread last week on Tuesday 6:30ish at Tesco. All 15p and 20p. Will be going again next week to see if it's a regular thing. It's a very handy time if it is, as my older girls are at athletics on Tuesday evening.I've been lucky, I'll be lucky again. ~ Bette Davis0

DH went shopping to large asda (fareham) normally good around 7pm and later on a monday for cheap veg and stuff.
However he went on a wednesday evening a bought £6 worth of meat including 3 joints of meat, a chicken, 7 salmon steaks, smoked salmon and some other stuff. (great MS but he cant stop crowing about how good he is!!!)
Morrisons in gosport often sells stuff for 9p (want some more oxtail so kepp going to look)0 -
My OH has found that the best time to go to Tescos for reduced stuff is between 8 and 8.30pm. He usually just checks the chilled cabinet and has got some real bargains. 2 pork chops for 28p for example.
I am usually tucking little one up in bed, so haven't seen it for myself, but he is getting to be a very savvy shopper! He nearly had a fight with some guy over a reduced steak. He nabbed it just as another bloke was moving in. The other bloke turned round to him and had a go at him!! Though when he looked in his trolley, he already had about 4 or 5 of the flipping things."I've fallen down a hole" - said in best Monty Python voice-over.0 -
i'd say around 8ish in the store I work, I start work at 8pm and between then and 9pm there are many announcements of items reduced, cucumbers 2p, bread 10p. really depends on staff and if there are items at the end of their sell by date.0

Slightly OT.
Yesterday I needed some baking apples for tea and went to the market at about 5pm. The veg stall I got the apples from were selling 2 large bags of broccolli for 50p (didn't aask how much they were before).
They also had strawberries cheap but I didn't want them.
It reminded me that my dad used to trawl the markets at closing time for bargains.0 -
I've found some great bargains when we're gone past the supermarket on the way back from the pub on friday nights (I try to drive so that i don't waste money in the pub). the other great bonus is that OH has usually had a few beers by then and suddenly puts lots of exciting things in the trolley that he wouldn't normally buy!! (We only see each other at weekends so this obviously only happens when i'm at his and he's paying - this may make me a bad person!):happyhear0

Reading another thread it made me think about how often do others go shopping?
Some people say they buy for 2/3 or even 4 weeks at a time - what day do they go when they do?
Also alot of threads talk about checking out marked down food just before closing time - does this me you go every day?
Please let me know what you do...You should never call somebody else a nerd or geek because everybody (even YOU !!!) is an"anorak" about something whether it's trains, computers, football, shoes or celebs:rotfl:

i go weekly, or as long as possible.
I only have a small kitchen & could never have a month of stuff in. Besides it wouldnt last.
So I go weekly with a strict budget. For example last week I went on Monday, this week i went yesterday and I anticipate I can probably srtretch it out till thursday. Someone told me if you do this then you can almost save a weeks shopping money. Not that Ive maanged this yet! Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0
