We had rain since last night until about an hour ago....going gardening with DGS2 when he comes from school.

Ham from yesterday with turnip and spinach for dinner, maybe more rhubarb with some yogurt which needs using up.

Happy birthday Stefejb...must be lovely to be 39...so long ago I have forgotten!

    Happy St George's Day

    Nice see you back Nelski

    Have a good day all

Nelski - thank you thank you thank you thank you...

I know what you mean, I sometimes feel that I shouldn't be posting here because I am aspiring rather than being OS. But the people are so lovely.

    Waiting for darling father...

He usually gets lost near a pub :eek::eek: Then asks directions for my very obscure road rather than the BIG shop it is next to.... And then calls in to the next pub to ask for more directions :eek::eek: The first time he came here he could barely climb the steps - and I can't stop him. I am a bit tense.

Hi Nelski, great to see you again! Lovely pic;)

I never really did get why cooking and cleaning constitutes old style when everyone has to do it really
But you don't have to be able to cook nowadays. It is (so I'm told) quite possible to feed yourself and your family without ever having to resort to more than opening a packet. A sorry state of affairs.

I've been reading my new books:D This one will be of interest to all those keen on history and programmes like THe Victorian Farm and Tales From a Green Valley. It is a really beautiful book, lovely to look at and with plenty of pictures. This one is a bit obscure but it describes a fantastically healthy, simple and cheap diet that is accessible to us all. It is available from amazon but the link give you more info;)

I have done my ironing and bathroom cleaning and feel very pleased with myself. I've also made some 100% wholemeal bread which is a change from my usual 50%. It is a variation of the Grant loaf which is incredibly easy and quick -no kneading and only 40 mins rising. I used Delia's version of the recipe which is here. I used less salt and replaced the sugar with treacle.

Had a lovely simple lunch of a slice of bread and butter, salad of watercress, lettuce, rocket from the garden, tomatoes, cucumber, onion and carrot with a piece of cheddar. Now I shall have an apple and a cup of tea:)

Edited to say thanks Nelski for the Brad Pitt pic- truly gorgeous- any Johnny Depp on you?

Nelski - thank you thank you thank you thank you.

I keep trying to persuade my darling father that dear heart can pick him up/take him home, that the coach is incredibly inexpensive compared to petrol, that it is so much less stressful...

But he hasn't seen little bear in over six months and that means that the car will be stuffed to the bonnet with goodies for him - some of which will even be age appropriate

I have bought two bottles of whisky. He is here till Monday. It may not be enough.

Edited to add - and little bear has just had a wonderful time running around after he sneaked after me when I took some rubbish out. He got cuddles, fuss, a play with next door's bear dog and now is supposed to be sitting quietly finishing his lunch. He can now open the front door - must keep it locked!!!!

Thriftlady-Somehow I dont think you need the book it sounds like you're doing just fine.My brother and I used to squabble and fight just like kids up to his death last year and we were both over 40 so not much hope of your kids stopping anytime soon:rotfl:

MSD-Hope things are going well for you

PenPin-Nice to see you posting again and hope you are enjoying the good weather

DD&D-I'd stop in the garden as you cant see the mess in the house from there:rotfl:

Well I would post something deep and meaningful about my day but after spending the last 1/2hr catching up on your days mine sort of pales into insignificance:DDone the usual round of cleaning, ironing etc.Hubby is at work so its a kid friendly tea tonight so I reckon they can have macaroni cheese with ham and tomatoes.I normally do a salad but veg supplies are at an all time low and I'm not going shopping till tomorrow so will have to be creative until then

Nelski Thank you for the eye candy its always cheering of an afternoon I find :rotfl:

Back from the hospital with Dad now they didn't do the test after all that  but have referred him for an angiogram to see what's happening iside his heart. It makes sense really as the last treadmill test in August 2008 was stopped after 1 and a half mins due to some wierd thing happening on the ECG  They did another trace of his heart & took his blood pressure & sugar levels all of which were perfect so the angiogram is the last bit of the jigsaw. He has said that he can take any cancellation at any notice so it hopefully shouldn't be too long before the appointment comes through.

Hope that everyone is having a good day. I decided on a sausage casserole in the end for dinner this evening it smelt lovely in the SC when I came in ;) I've cut the sausages up into slices, browned them & lobbed them in the Sc with a pack of new pots, 2 tins of beans, a tin of toms, some stock, salt & pepper and a good dash of worcester sauce. I found some part baked baguettes in a local freezer shop at 4 for £1 yesterday so I'll serve them with it to mop up the juices  We're making smoothies afterwards as pudding with a mixture of frozen & fresh fruit.
