Twitter is also a great source of news, you get simple uncensored information as a situation develops.

Several big stories have broken on twitter first, and many aspects of a story appear on twitter that don't make the mainstream media.

For example the plane that landed on the River Hudson, within a minute of the incident someone had tweeted including a picture. The news was instant and available to everyone instantly without censorship or control.

The G20 protests were also interesting to follow on Twitter, again no censorship or control. Some mainstream media also chose to use twitter during the protests eg. The Guardian.

Twitter promises to be a very important tool of free speech.
