i'm actually kinda glad i'm on twitter and not facebook, as all the people who like "the other stuff" that facebook gives you, can keep all that "other stuff".

Twitter is simple, and doesn't overcomplicate things with walls, and poking.. it's just answering one simple question

    What are you doing?

I use both Facebook and Twitter, but I prefer Twitter. I'm not frankly interested in the gimmicky Facebook applications, and I'm deeply suspicious as to why on earth you are required to give away all your details (to who knows who?) in order to use them. But Twitter isn't perfect either. There are far too many on there who simply try to harvest as many names as they can in order to spam you. So it's as well, I find, to be judicious about whom you decide to follow.
  • Twitter sounds like the text version of "I'm on the train"

    What is it?

I'm getting annoyed and confused by every television show talking about Twittering and "...or you can twitter your message to us..."

Is this something i need to get into?

Your post really made me laugh.
Actually, I was in the same situation as you, I kept wondering for months what Twiiter was, until 2 weeks ago, i opened an account, started following some people (derren brown, stephen fry, richard dawkins, some newpapers, brands). I think it's fu******g awesome.

The main thing is to follow interesting people who you can learn something from. It 's not for friends IMO.
  • If you are anything like my daughter and into "soaps", there are now lots of
tweet pages, for eg eastenderschat or coronantionchat, on twitter , unlike
facebook where you get 10 or more people faking the profile of for eg,
Samantha janus, on twitter you will find just one, the real person..

The thing with twitter is that if you dont login for 1 day there could be hundreds of tweets or whatever the messages are called,

Twitters horrible just like soaps :p I think 'unimaginative' sums them both up as their so predictable, the same thing seems to get posted over and over again.

Meridith Vieira: "Oh, do you Twitter? Tweet?"

    Stephen Colbert: "I have twatted."

Meridith Vieira: "Actually, so have I."

Only just getting into twitter myself, but quite enjoying it.

Not really a huge "celeb" person, but the updates from Rob Brydan, Jimmy Carr, Stephen Fry etc all raise a giggle now and then.

Don't have anyone on there that posts anything too unremarkable, wouldnt bother following them if they did...

Also had advance notice of some tickets coming up, some useful traffic updates etc from it, so quite worthwhile.

And I have it as a gadget on my igoogle homepage, so don't need to bother ever actually going to the site, which is a bonus.

There's an excellent how-to introduction to Twitter, with hands-on examples, here:
