Just picked up one of these in the Chichester store, called beforehand and they put it by.
Got there, and they were reinstalling everything on it, waited for them and they told me that it didn't come with a box or anything. So I asked for a reduction in the price - went off to the see the manager. Came back saying they can't sell it because of no recovery CD. Some legal requirement.
Went and spoke to the manager and argued that I already have a Windows XP Home Edition CD and therefore don't need any software. He agreed to allow me to sign a piece of paper to say that sold as seen with no software, and only support on the hardware.
Managed to get a free wireless keyboard and mouse from him in the price and used my UCAS card and got 10% off. Came to £178.
Very silent PC, just reinstalling XP again because it comes preloaded with junk.
Very slight cosmetic damage. Thanks OP for the great post.
Edit: just found all the recovery cd contents on the Packard Bell website. :j0 -

Just got back from PCW, Festival Park, Stoke on Trent. They didn't have the PB 1517 but I did get an ex-demo PB Pentium4, 3ghz, 1 gig ram, 200gig HD, DVDRW. £269.99
I'm well happy with that spec at that price so thanks again, dc.0 -

I went to my local currys who searched the area using product code 767039. For some reason the price came up at 199.97 at selly oak and 219.97 at solihull. solihull was the only one showing one that was local (display model) but when i got there a member of staff had already had it.Wi11iams wrote:anyone got the 6 digit code to check stock? or is it a case of going instore? andrewmoorcroft how did you check stock?
