quote from the ipswich star article:
Mr Fisher said he believed he had an agreement with Butlins to use a caravan that he had purchased on its Skegness site.
However he said they had since confirmed that this was not the case - a matter he was pursuing through the courts.
funny that, i remember a few people on this forum had booked more than one caravan with this conman for the same week. how can this man say he believed he had the use of A CARAVAN. to me that says he thought he had the use of 1 caravan, yet he has booked multiple caravans for the same week. sometimes even to the same person. how can that be classed as confusion, you cant be confused and believe you own 1 caravan, but book 3 caravans at the same time if you belive you only own 1. to me that is delibrate fraud.
sounds to me like hes known exactly what he was doing all along, and is now trying to worm his way out of it. i for one hope this pathetic excuse for a human being gets whats coming to him.0 -
Just a couple of points. Firstly, in his original listing, he stated that he OWNED six caravans (mine was supposed to be sandhill 258 booked for 25th July- anybody else for that pitch or week?) Secondly, (sorry if I repeat this) when I tried to add extra name to booking in February and smelled a rat, Butlins confirmed he had property there. Thirdly, if he is lying about all of this perhaps Butlins (a big company as you say) may have a case for libel. Fourthly, perhaps we should all take tents to good old Mike's front garden on weeks we booked OR even better collectively! Ode to follow.:rotfl:
WHO'S LAUGHING NOW
I booked a hol on EBay
The feedback there was good
I sent off all the money
To a modern Robin Hood
We were going up to Butlins
In a lovely caravan
Alas, we then discovered
It all had been a scam
Some vans were non existant
Or double booked (or more!)
With many crammed in bunkbeds
Or sleeping on the floor
Arrivals with their luggage
Were turned back at the gate
And told " we're very sorry
Please book another date"
I know a lovely campsite
It is in Ipswich town
You will need to bring a wigwam
And the neighbours may well frown
If Micheal doesn't like it
Remind him you have paid
'Cos he needs to honour contracts
And provide us with a maid
As busloads of happy campers
Descend upon the drive
The place will be quite crowded
With others to arrive
When queues form for the toilets
I think our Mike may crack
And may beg those happy campers
To take their money back!0 -

i have just had a phonecall from butlins skegness offering the 15% off a caravan holiday if i wanted to take it up so looks like this has been reinstated personally i think its a joke when they already charge thru the roof for the same holiday that private owners charge far less for. butlins have gone down in my estimation0

Supermum4 - Just wanted to respond to your questions about where the money went and what we could have done to help. It's very complicated so excuse the mass of information. In my opinion I guess the main points are that; we didn't receive any money, the caravans are privately owned and privately rented out, so we didn't know anything about this until people turned up, and this will always be the case due to data protection laws. We are now working with Trading Standards to help:
1)Butlins has never received any money from Mr Fisher.
2)Arrangements between Mr Fisher and his holidaymakers were private and so we do not recieve any advance information about the people who book holidays through him.
3)The caravan park adjacent to Butlins Skegness has 600 privately owned caravans. The vast majority of these caravans are privately owned by members of the public who pay Butlins an annual ground rent. Butlins does not control the users of these caravans and there are no physical barriers to entry onto the park. Consequently a large number of these private owners either let out the caravans themselves or sign up with lettings agents. Butlins has no knowledge of these private arrangements made between individuals.
4)What we do know is that in February 2009 a Mr Michael Fisher approached Butlins Skegness to purchase six caravans which he said that he intended to use for letting. Mr Fisher gave Butlins a number of cheques in apparent support of this transaction. All of these cheques have been returned unpaid by his bank. Butlins has subsequently been shown a copy letter from Mr Fisher’s bankers stating that the cheque book from which the cheques had been taken was reported by Mr Fisher as having being stolen!
5)In addition, we have also now received written confirmation from private owners of caravans which Mr Fisher had advertised as for let that neither he nor Blue Skies lettings had or have ever had permission to let.
6)In March 2009 we started having holidaymaker customers turn up saying they had paid Mr Fisher money for holidays.
7)The net result is that Trading Standards are now investigating Mr Fisher with our help and support.0 -

Can you explain exactly what you mean when you say this will be the case due to data protection laws? Thank you.0 -
My personal understanding (and I'm not any kind of expert on this or representing Butlins when I say this) is that the caravan owners and the letting agencies give us the names and the number of people coming on to our Resort so that they can recieve the keys, but do not give us any further details such as contact phone number and address because these are protected by the data protection law. I think, and correct me if I'm wrong, this is so that your details aren't being shared and used by anyone except those that you have chosen to give them too. I imagine this is why we couldn't contact people effected but have now been able to through Trading Standards.
Does that help?0 -
The data protection laws only cover information held by companies,if the caravan owners are not companies then they are not covered by those rules though.0
