I've been looking at BT's free connection on thier web site as my daughter has moved to a property that has a telephone socket in it already, the previous people had a phone with Virgin.
Free BT connection is stated to available to most customers & they will confirm your eligability after you have placed your order.
They also state the you most have a phone line with a dialing tone present ie: you must already have an operational telephone service.0 -

Your talking about BT,s normal Free Connection/restart/takeover (12 month contract) if you have an existing working line.

This thread is primarily about the 18 month contract free connection special offer where you dont have a working line, and its not mentioned on BT,s main site.0 -

Thanx for the heads up, all this can be sooo complicated.
Reminds me of the expression 'Confusion Marketing'0 -
I'd thought I may have missed this but, phew, it's still being offered!
I'm getting free connection, and only being charged £11.25 per month as I set up a direct debit. I'm paying £2.95pm for "free" evening & weekend calls (which includes 0845 and 0870 numbers). I'm ex-directory (not sure if you'd normally be charged for this) and I get free 1571 and caller I.D. I'll also save more money when I set up paperless bills after the installation.
I'm so pleased I caught this before the offer ends, I just couldn't afford the £122 charge, after all the other costs of moving house and I'm about to have a baby too!!!
Thanks MSE!0 -

Oh I also meant to add it's only a 12 month contract, not 18 as I'd thought0 -

Hi all
I've moved into a flat which has a phone line installed but it has no dial tone so I assume it is disconnected. I was going to use this offer to reconnect and get a landline but I also want to sort out Broadband (the only reason I'm getting the line in is for broadband - mobile broadband ISN'T an option unfortunately!).
Does anyone know whether you can get the free connection deal and then add a broadband package on top? Or would that be considered an additional deal?
I'm going to phone BT tonight or tomorrow but if anyone has tried this already it would be a a bonus!0 -
I'm sure BT would welcome you ordering their* broadband as well (they'd make the money they're not charging you for the line installation/reconnection back more quickly). Don't accept any "It doesn't apply to you" (or similar) nonsense from agents you speak to. If you get that, ask to be transferred to the Customer Options Team immediately. If you still get problems, hang up and try again.
* However, you can choose any ADSL broadband provider once you have a BT landline.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Thanks Heinz!
Yes I've been looking into other providers as well but have a rather tempermental netbook that only seems to like connecting to BT broadband for some reason. Serves me right for getting an incredibly cheap one from Tesco with Linux I suppose!
I'm planning on moving to the cheapest deal after my BT contract ends as by then i should also be able to afford to upgrade to a decent laptop!
I'll post a progress update tomorrow after my dealings later with BT!0
