  • I have just recently installed free bt installation and am confused about the 10 chargeable phone calls per month. If I have signed up for an overrider facility such as 18185 and use it to make 10 phone calls to fixed landlines that charge 0p per minute, does that mean I have made the monthly chargeable phone call quota.

I'm afraid not. Such calls go over a different network from BT's. You must dial the number without using any override code so that you get billed by BT.
  • just to double check , i need a new line installing which obviously needs connecting so if i took up this offer from BT i would not pay a penny for both of the above requirements

The necessary 10 calls can be made at the weekend (when calls of up to 60 minutes each are inclusive - free - to 01, 02, 03, 0845 and 0870 numbers) so should cost nothing.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Can the BT rep confirm that 0845 calls made in the free time on my 18 month Evening and Weekend package (which saved me paying £122.50) will qualify for the required 10 calls per month.
What would happen if I did not make the requisite 10 calls. My reading of Terms and Conditions suggests I would be charged an extra £7.50 that month?
And is the month defined as the billing period e.g. 16th to 16th or per calendar month?

Most of here don't get paid to confirm anything but we would say 'yes' to this.

It's a bit more than suggested. You're correct.

" If you are billed monthly and you don't make your minimum 10 calls a month, you will need to pay £6.80 (Incl. VAT) for every month you don't make these calls. This charge will appear in the One-off charges section. "

    Thanks guys!
For some weird reason I had the 2008 details which were identical to the 2009 except did not mention the £6.80!

Well here's a thing. I got a BT line installed in June and my first bill showed the credit for the free install. I also qualify for BT Basic and on the offer page it says:
    4. Customers who qualify for BT Basic may migrate without fulfilling the remainder of their minimum term.

My latest bill shows the connection fee being re-applied to my account and a quarterly bill of £132!
  • I spoke to BT this morning and they have told me that they have extended the free line connection from Wed 30 October until 31 December.:j
