Is the GIOL forum worth the risk (with poll)?

When you discuss risk you have to recognise that it is not a single simple thing, there are different TYPES of risk. The risk in MB is that you make a mistake
I think we're covering old ground here but although mistakes are certainly a risk I think by far the biggest risk is bookies going bust.
Lots of mistakes are actually as likely to make a profit as a loss. Whereas a bookie going bust or "doing a Betchance" costs lots of people lots of money.0 -
Fair point- I, should have said "the most likely risk" or something similar. The basic point stands though, a bookie going bust is a different kind of risk entirely from the random variation that occurs in casino games. That's the unambiguos difference. You're right that it is old ground.....but it's just so dumb that it gets me annoyed..... Ok, I will take up meditation.Every joke is a tiny revolution......0

Casino offers being discussed on MSE would be like Shroedingers Cat.
I can't imagine many casino offers that wouldn't be pulled/not honoured after being inundated by the traffic that a forum as popular as this would generate if we started preaching free money after xxx of low-risk wagering.
So ipso facto I think the line taken here is correct. Any moreorless risk-free casino offer discussed here would cease to be risk-free (if it ever was to begin with) & therefore should not be discussed here....

Anyhow, anyone with just a tiny tad of initiative will find what they want to find elsewhere.
The problem as I see is it that the majority of people who post here these days lack this and common sense in abundance. This board is dangerous imo and has had many a detrimental affect on offers past present and in the future. I've heard of phone account for example where people have rung up and said they heard of them on MSE, I mean !!!!!!....
Also the overall atmosphere on this board has changed markedly in the last 6 months or so, people are gambling much more, a lot more stories of 'made a mistake let it ride etc etc..' It's only going to end in (and already has with bluesq) tears in the long run.
I think at least a shake up of the rules and stricter moderation is needed to remedy the current situation.0 -

Doesn't matter- let the morons fry. Natral selection inti blood.
Seriously- I agree that the standard of advice on this forum has fallen dramatically in the last 6 months or so, but it's still where I first discovered MB, and since that point I've learned a lot more gambling "tricks" and made a killing- so I'll be eternally grateful.
The introductory guides are still very good, and that's all you really need, from there on if you've got half a brain you can figure it out, and if you havent, well.......Every joke is a tiny revolution......0 -
this thread is not going to achieve anything other than to cause arguments. i'm out.
I was just writing a long post to say just that, but you put it much more succinctly than I was so I thought I'd just steal that quote. Pointless thread, only in place to stir.Debt Log

A dvd surround system (For me in the the Shed)
Tiled our kitchen (Made of sound deadening material to block out surround system noise for wife)
Replaced outside door (As noise from shed's 5x4000Watt speakers blew it out)
Replaced inner door (Like I said, it's a good system)
Paid for half a holiday (The half being sending the wife somewhere she can't hear the noise)
and the only way is up (Volume that is).
I know, I am a bad bad person, but I couldn't resist writing what went through my head as I read the post.
The volume is always up, we bought a 1000w dvd surround system, with HD upscaling, and an optical link into the Virgin HD box.
So in short, we no longer have a stereo, but a 1000w music player.0 -
It all comes down to common sense - follow the "rules" and you will make money, I'm at around the £3,500 mark.
My mistakes have been down to my own incompetance, failing to confirm a lay at one exchange, queueing for odds and not being around near kick off to take alternative action on a FGS market, not taking corrective action where a rule 4 deduction was going against me etc. All of these have been on low value bets £10 and I would have been significantly more careful had it been for any more money.
My only big mistake was mismatching a dutch for an arb - I backed alonso to beat piquet in the race, and vice versa in qualifiying. I realised this mistake too late to do anything about the race, but was able to lock in a loss on the qualifying and prayed during the race.
I certainly believe in MBing Karma - if my intentions are following "the rules" the outcome is good - when I intentionally stray from the rules the outcome goes against me.
So to answer the OPs poll - yes I have "lost money" match betting but the losses everytime have been absorbed by the profit from the whole series of bets I placed on those particular weekends.
The other "mistakes" or "losses" I have made have been where I haven't got the most from an offer - i.e. backing at under 2 thus my qualifier didn't count and I missed out on a free bet etc.0 -
I have a bright yellow Lotus Exige S parked outside. Paid for in its entirety thanks to finding this forum 2 years ago. I no longer worry about money (ok, maybe now I worry about where my money is in the world!). I have made several mistakes but they even themselves out.
Its a beautiful day. I am going out to enjoy the fruits of my labour. :cool:0 -
