I returned my camera and got an email confirmation today that it had been received. I phoned Empire to close my account and to tell them to take me off their mailing list and was told that will take 12 weeks!
I doubt I will ever use empire again.0 -
I received an email informing me that they have my cameras in stock and will be sending them out shortly.
Its been so long since I ordered these...maybe they have got some more 3mp cameras
I dunno whether to phone and cancel....How can they bill me...I've not given my credit card
I cant get into the my account section...it asks for a customer ref number...Ive never received one

I got a customer reference number on the delivery note when my free gift was dispatched - didn't you get this Rob?
I've just logged in to "my account" and all it says is "Items Not Charged 17 Mar 2006 SW6826 1 DIGITAL CAMERA 1 (19.99)". I don't know if this means I'm getting one or not. I never set up an account with them, they have got my credit card number from my original order, but I haven't been charged anything yet.
When you do a search for catalogue number SW6826 on their site now, it says "D/CAMERA Delivery within 2-3 weeks £19.99", so presumably they have got some in stock now. It's probably all the 2 megapixel ones people here have been returning!0 -

The letter I received seemed to be sent to all affected customers.
It said that those who ordered a 3 MP camera had received a 2MP just because they never intended to put a 3MP camera on sale for that 19.99 price and it was a mistake.
They do not explain why they took the money, or accepted the order in the first place with full confirmation etc. The letter ends saying they are happy to get the camera back and refund the customers affected.
Once again this seems to me a cheap way for them to buy a way out of a situation which they intentionally created to full their books with customers.
I have reported Empire Stores to ConsumerDirect, but have not heard anything back from them. I will continue to fight to get my 3.1 camera.0 -
My cameras arrived today....months after I ordered.
..and guess what they sent me ?
yes it was the 2mp cameras
I dont want to open them and break the seal to see what they are like. Are they really badshould I send them back

Just make sure you keep the original packaging in case you do decide to send them back - no harm in trying them out to see what you think, just so long as they remain in "as new" condition if/when you send them back.
I got the standard "sold out" response on the delivery note when I received my freebies from them but I've also had an email saying "We have now sold out of the <camera> and we are unable to offer an alternative. Please re-select from our current catalogue and re-order in the normal way." I'm not therefore expecting to receive anything more from them (not that I'm complaining given all the kerfuffel !!!) but I wouldn't be surprised if a 2MP camera turns up one day, out of the blue !!!!:wall:
If you haven't given them your credit card details then I'm guessing they must have opened a credit account for you, and you'll need to pay off the weekly repayments (no doubt someone else who has an account with them will be able to put you in the picture)0 -

I think there is no harm in opening and trying it. All the returns end up as refurbished anyway, or as gifts for some future offer.
To me it lookesd really rubbish and the shots/videos were rubbish.
Certainly not worth the money spent, even after the discounts.0 -
If I keep the cameras do I wait while they send a request for payment or what ?
Am I supposed to approach them to pay or do they come to me ? I cant get into 'my account' to see if I owe them money, and they havent asked me for anything...yet
What a strange companyI've never known owt like it

don't worry about it. I not only opened mine but used it to take some pics of stuff I wanted to sell on ebay before I sent it back. It was accepted and the full amount was refunded.
Seriously though, I wouldn't even bother trying it...it is pants.0 -

When you try to log in to "my account", are you putting your customer ref number in without the dashes or spaces? It's shown on the statement with dashes in, for example 123-456-789 C but when you put the number in on the website it has to be without the dashes or spaces for some reason.
You have to register with the site before you can use "my account" as well. I tried to put the link in my post to the registration page for you but when I test it, it just goes back to the home page, sorry.
I think they will probably send you a statement in the post telling you how much you owe them. I got a statement a couple of days ago even though I've never received a camera. All it had on it was the free gifts that I received.
I also got a letter welcoming me to the "benefits of home and hassle free shopping with us". :rotfl:0
