Update: 3.1mp camera now back to £80, 2mp now £20 but that's only good rather than great.
Warning:
A camera can be rated at 8 million mega pixels `output` and really only be 2 million megapixels.
How do they get away with this? I believe trading standards have come to a conclusion but I'll get to that in a bit.
They take the picture and then chuck pixels into the picture to increase the pixel count!
The real rating of a camera is the megapixel capability of the CCD (digital sensor) rather than `output`. If you see it say 3 million megapixel and then `output` in small print you know that it's really misleading you.
I bought a 4mp camera from ToysRus but when I opened it up to look in the manual the specifications said 2mp CCD sensor. They wouldn't accept a return because it had been opened, and trading standards couldn't do anything because it stated `output` in small print on the outside (that I hadn't noticed).
Now, the Tescos camera doesn't state `output` on the outside but I really doubt it's really 5mp - it's probably just 2mp with junk thrown in. So let trading standards know.
Even I can make a 150mp camera if it's output - I just take a 2mp shot and interpolate another 148mp into the picture! So don't be had and let trading standards know - they are supposed to be investigating this.
In the meantime everyone please look in the manual for the specifications page and tell me what megapixel CCD you have is.
((another thing to note is that megapixel isn't everything and that a 2mp can look better than a 3mp camera due to quality of the lens etc. A friend has an old 2mp camera but because of the quality it takes better pictures than my 3mp camera. Having said this megapixel is a good guide and if you make sure it's the CCD quality I go by because it's not open to backhander bribes from manufacturers to reviewers))Order of events: Banks lose our money -> get bailed out -> were inflating GBP to cover it -> now taxing us -> next will grab your funds direct -> things get really desperate to balance the books. What should have happened?: banks go bust and we lost our money much quicker0 -

The Tesco camera mentioned (Premier - DS5080)has five million EFFECTIVE PIXELS -(NOT interplolated) so don't go to Trading Standards on that one.

I understand the interpolation might make difficult to define exactly a camera, but the description in the original epirestore pages was clear. There was no mention of enhancing the image and it was clear as clear is now the page on 2 MP.
It was clearly referring to the 3MP 3040 model (whether for a mistake or not I can't tell).
Has any of the many moneysavers here taken a screenshot (or saved the html pages) of the original offer? That would be very useful0 -
Look again at the review of the original camera posted and offered -
http://www.applelinks.com/p5/index.php/more/charles_moore_reviews_the_concord_eye_q_3040_af_31_megapixel_digital_camera/
Neither camera appears to be interpolated according to the review but the 2MP 2040 has definitely replaced the original 3MP 3040 on the Empire site.
Do make sure you receive the model you expected - does your order confirm this?

I ordered when it was stated as a 3.1mp and my invoice states 'great value! concord 3MP digital camera', it has deducted the code and with a pair of tights states the price to pay at £13.50odd.
If Empire send any other model I will ring them and threaten trading standards, simple as that. You can't advertise a product and send an invoice with the product and the price then send anything else or charge any other price. It's just not legal. I am fully within my rights to buy the camera at the price on my invoice regardless of the price it is now or any price it has been.
Also; I rang empire to ask how do I get my customer number as I want to make another order. They told me my customer number would be sent in 10-14 days (even though I had a predicted arrival time for camera for tomorrow!) and I can't order online until I have the number, but I can order over the phone so presumably they are referencing against my address.
I'll wait till the goods arrive and see.0 -
If unopened, You can always send it back under Distance Selling Regs anyway, but make sure they pay the return postage - as it their "mistake " -or illegal practice - that you received the wrong model if you have proof in the order confirmation that it was the 3.1mp model .My guess it that they sold out when the offer went out in the MSE email and they swapped it over then.

Yeah, I bought mine before the email went out so I definately ordered the silver 3.1mpx one - whether I get it now is another matter
Can't find that camera anywhere when doing a search for 'concord' on the site.0 -

Hello, Well even if it doesn't turn out to be the best camera in the world, for that money, stick it in the car and if you ever have an accident it could save a lot of words and diagrams on the claim form. Just make sure the batteries are kept charged.0
