I'm looking for a good, reasonably priced pair of hair straighteners. I dont usually use them, so need some that are easy to use. Any ideas??

Here is a review of hair straighetners from the Observer Woman magazine last month
    Ceramic irons

    Babyliss
    Pro 230 C, £60, Argos, Boots
Has heatproof mat to rest the tongs on and four clips to separate hair. Slightly wider iron made things easier. Heat dial to control temperature.
    5 stars

    Errol Douglas
    Pro-Tect Straight Solid Thermo, £59.99, Errol Douglas salons, 020 7235 0110
These are fine, with a dial to decrease heat when your ends start crackling (only kidding).
    4 stars

    Daniel Hersheson
Irons, £99, Daniel Hersheson salons, Harrods
Easy to get the hang of, in spite of lack of information. No dial to control temperature.
    3 stars

    GHD
    Professional Irons, £99, https://www.ghdhair.com
These do the job and have the best instructions. No heat dial though. And why does everything have to be gold or silver?

I use nicky clarke wet to straight ones, I have fine curly hair and they are brilliant, if you want really straight hair. Dont be put off by using them on wet hair, just make sure you invest in good quality sprays etc to protect your hair

Saw in boots today that they are selling the GHD glass straighteners for half price at £40 in Stamford.

  • GHD's are well worth the money by far BUT i bought a cheap pair to take with me when i travel (id be devistated if my GHD's got lost by baggage handlers).

They were a bargain at £10 from Tesco's. It was tesco's own brand ones like smartprice. They do two of there own one at £10 one at £14 im sure its just different packaging.

Anyway id suggest if you only use them occasionally and want to try them out without spending a fortune then these are ideal. Not as good as GHD's but nearly as good at a fraction of the price.

Please be aware that GHD have recently been fined for their straighteners not being of merchantable quality (or whatever the correct term is).
It appears that the straighteners were catching fire. I do know that my daughter bought a pair (around £90 I believe) and they suddenly started smouldering when she had only used them half a dozen times. She complained and was refunded though. Still it was scary at the time!
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

Can someone please explain why you can pay upto £100 for two plates that heat up to about 200degrees?? Surely there can't be much difference?
