For decent hair straighteners I would say GHD but they are £100+ so not really cheap. I have babyliss straighteners and they are semi decent with a good hair serum

My daughter's hairdresser got her some at the trade shop she uses - reckons they are as good as ghd's (and she has tried most sorts!). Only cost £25 as were on offer and have been using them for a couple of years now - no problems.
  • i used to have remmington ones which cost £20 at Boots I know have GHD apart from the fact i burn my fingers more on the GHD's as they are hotter they are no different same shape size just £80 cheaper - i bought my GHD from jason shankey Web site they were £85.

my sister has GHDs as her hair is thick and wavy so they work really well
i got a pair £17.50 from argos they were half price and as my hair is fine and its long and nearly straight these work the same on my hair as my sisters GHDs
If their hair is difficult to get straight then go for a good pair if its easy then a cheaper pair will just be as good
In fact im sure they were testing straightners in my hair mag and a £20 pair came out better than the GHDs
The most important advice would be to make sure they use a heat protective barrier spray before and spray it especially on the ends
If i can find the mag still i will report back

I have the vidal sassoon ones from Argos they're only £19.99 now, have a variable heat setting (which is good as my hair is dead thick but my friends all have fine hair and they can still use it) Have had mine for 2 years now with no problems.
    Weight loss since 01/08/07 - 72 lbs:j
  • Couple of people I know have bought GSH straighteners off the net - they are about £34.99 and my friends say they are as good as GHD. I had a quick google of them now and their site has a feature comparison with GHD and they do look to be high quality, plus they have a money back guarantee - have a look at them and see what you think.

I can wholeheartedly recommend these new type of straightners that have recently come onto the market:

    http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4425911.htm

    Quick overview:

Ultra smooth plates made from over 1 billion crushed crystals.
Hand polished plates ensure there is no snagging or any pull on the hair.
More durable and longer lasting than ceramic.
Ultra fast heat up - ready to use in 20 seconds.
    Top temperature 210 degrees C.
Digital temperature control allows easy reading and shows actual temperature readout.
    On/off switch.
Auto shut off - after 60 minutes.
    2.8m professional swivel cord.
    2 year guarantee

They are fantastic. I straightened my hair yesterday morning and haven't had to do it again this morning as it was still poker straight!

They are £50 as you can see, but I got mine off ebay for £20 brand new!
