My authority. I need no other in my own garden, if he entered it of his own free will and bugged hell out of me. He was "helping".

As to "not respecting me" - he respects nobody, including his own family. I'd FAR prefer him to fear me in this case. I can't stand him, he knows this. He keeps his distance, I keep mine, everyone's happy.

However, this is fairly ancient history, it's the way it is, I have no interest in altering it, and it's off topic..heh.

If you're not just trolling, you will probably end up in a police cell eventually.

Oh please. Have you never given a pestering child something to "do" that's "useful" to keep him the hell off your case? I neither wanted, nor asked for his pestering. It kept him happy feeling "useful", it kept me from dropping the bonnet on him, it was the ideal solution.

He could have walked away - nobody was stopping it. The gate was right behind him and open. we did point it out. He wanted to watch, we wanted him to not move, or touch anything, preferably to just naff the hell off and leave us in peace to do what we were doing. It was a good solution, and one I use on kids now if they're in danger of becoming a liability.

"go and tighten those screws", "go and polish that, it makes it run better", "see that? Don't touch it, it'll hurt" etc. I've got one soon for work experience..he's going to learn the joy of doing inventories when we've already got a good one, in those moments that we're quite frankly too busy to babysit.

I don't mind kids that want to learn and will sit and learn, I DO have issue with little fingers and fiddling with things that don't concern them. :o I'm quite tactful - it's not me that as a rule tells them to sod off..heh.

Sirbendy - love to set you on my neighbours kids!

Shame some turn out so bad, usually you need to look to the parents.

Because DT was saying the kid wouldn't respect an adult who threatened them, was intimidating and so on.

You would have anyone that was mean to your kid looking over their shoulder for a long time.

So, in fact, you completely disagree with DT and think that intimidation is the way forward...

A good and cheap trick is to just put about 1 foot high of trellis around the top of your fence, this is surprisingly effective as a deterent especially if you plant climbing plants such as honeysuckle underneath it.

I got told (by the police) if i put vandal greese up then if the tresspasser wanted to if they got it on their clothes could take me to court!

With the <15 i tend to let the dog out and say "whos that go get 'em" and off the dog runs barking her head off ( they don't know she is soft and just barks with the excitement!):T
