Is there a way to stop people getting into your garden?

Options
Hi everyone,

I got home from work on Friday and noticed that there was a big muddy footprint on the path at the bottom of my garden.

On Saturday afternoon I then saw one of my neighbours climb onto the fence from his side look into our garden and into the house, walk along the top of the fence and jump down into my other neighbours garden (and we wonder why kids now-a-days have no respect for other peoples property).

Any advice on how to stop this happening, not too happy about having someone lurking around my garden when I'm not home.

Cheers

I was thinking barbed wire but have been told I would need to put a sign up warning people its there otherwise I could get sued if someone hurts themselves on it!

Thast true, Plus you'd need a dog sign if you plan to have a dangerous dog running about

How about you just go round there and have a word with him, asking him politely not to do this?

If you were dealing with someone like you or me this would be the ideal solution but is someone who climbs into other peoples gardens without a second thought going to listen?

There is some sort of paint you can get from hardware stores to put on top of the fence. Then anyone who trys to get over it will get it on there skin and cloths meaning they will learn not to do it again.

if it's a wooden fence, remove the capping rail and insert nails, pointy end up. Put back rail.

Maybe paint fence top with "anti climb" slippery paint? Razor wire also springs to mind.

I had a neighbour at parents that kept doing similar...I got a bit of corrugated rusty tin, wrapped it in barbed wire, put it under the fence then loosened the fence a bit and said..."when I hear you scream, I WILL laugh - do you understand me? Now..**** off.. If I see you in this garden again, if I find one damn footprint out of place, I'll put a bloody trap down and have your leg off."

Never did it again, funny enough. :rotfl:

Never could stand the child. He's 17-18 now, and 3 years back he was out there in the dark at 11pmish firing ball bearings blindly from his catapult and seeing what broke...and boy, did he jump when I "appeared" out of the shadows with the pilot light on my "shoulder mounted" tarmac melter lit...

"If you hit anything of mine, and I mean anything...I will, quite happily, put this machine to use...". Mr "I'm in the TA" pretty much soiled himself on the spot..:o 'tis a shame it was out of fuel really..
