Same I'm afriad, direct unlock, but you can try the web for remote unlock codes, as I believe they offer certain networks, but very expensive.

bb5 phone I’m afraid, there are no free remote codes, but your network provider/market stall, or a pro unlocker can help here. There are also remote codes that you can obtain from the web on certain networks, but very expensive

Bought a tesco sim locked nokia 5230 thinking they use o2 network and it would take an o2 sim which it doesnt.Tried a few local shops to unlock it and all said there is some new security feature making it more expensive to unlock approx £30 didnt get it done as i thought i would check here first.

I am curious how the unlock codes come about. I presume that when the phone is programmed by Nokia on behalf of a particular operator then they put a lock into the phone which needs the secret code to disable. I would guess the carrier has this code in the database? I presume then the mobile phone operator, on being asked to unlock it, can then charge you for the code.

How do third parties get hold of the code? Do they have a special agreement with Nokia (or have stolen their database?), or is the secret code generated through an algorithm with a secret key, and the unlockers have somehow got hold of the algorithm and the keys?

And how is it that the unlocking software hasn't been leaked through pirate bay to everyone?

sorry, yes, some big questions but I am very nosy. it seems there are a lot of people making a living out of unlocking phones and it's not the mobile operators!!
