  • Well i have been playing with my spreadsheets and been optimistic about ohs bonus, i can on my spreadsheet clear all unsecured negative wealth in august 2013:D hehe thats optimistic and reliant on ohs bonus :). Also because i have done a sensible budget that splits savings for a new house deposit family planning etc its very good, i may however get the fever and hold off savings for a few months to quicken the date of unsecured freedom :D if i dont do any savings i can clear the unsecured by may 2013 yipppeeee lets pray for ohs bonus :D I should know a definate before the end of the month if thats the case expect some giggly giggly jumps and dances :D x

  • I have myself a dilemma well not so much a dillemma just looking for other peoples view point. I have a secured loan its over 30 years the intrest rate is 4% so it would not make money sense to get an unsecured loan at a higher rate. Now my dilemma im wanting to start a family our home will accomodate the first child but to then have other children we would need to move. Once the unsecured is paid off we are in a nice financial situation. Now because the secured loan is spread over so long the monthly payments do very little to service the outstanding amount! it costs 1290 in intrest a year! we can overpay £1000 a year no more unless we are paying the loan off in full! Now ive looked at different ways like for example saving a very large amount to clear it off over 2-3 years. Now this is where it gets stressful for me im planning on mother nature been easy so say i catch on with early 2013 i want to save 5k for family stuff buying days etc etc etc its probably over cautious but i am a plan freak. im looking at 18 month to 2 year age gap so id have so il have 9 month preganancy + 12 months first baby then ttc 2nd and give us another 6 month before moving so 27 month if things are rapid. Sorry im rambling just trying to get it out of my head. Should i save to pay secured loan saving us £160 a month and freeing up and equity that we may get in the house we sell or do i save up for an house deposit and hope that the homeowner loan can be dealt with when the house sells ? The thing thats getting me is well ive been paying negative wealth actively aware of paying since aug 2008 and its like sometimes you feel like screaming when does it stop when can we feel ok about things.... i know im rambling im also a crazed planner and i am overthinking the fact our next move wont be dream house longterm so i want to make the best out of our time in the more than affordable home we are in now ie get everything paid off and get as much saved as possible i just dont know ive stressed myself out now ! xx

  • Ive had a cup of coffee sat down and played with the spreadsheets and it looksr like this:
Build 5k through pregnancy to help with costs and buys for baby.
When 5k built up start to build savings for paying secured loan off, if we live sensibly and within reason on our minimum wages so not accounting overtime, bonus's or pay rises we can pay the secured loan off in 16 months from may.
Once secured loan paid we will have a nice amount to save up for a house deposit + any equity in the house we live in now. So i feel abit better in my head now yay me xx

Hi Happy. My preference would be to save to pay the secured loan off before you move if poss. You have a bit of time before baby no 2 would need a shared or it's own room. DD2 was in our room until she was nearly one. I breastfed until she was 10 months so it mad sense to have her in with us. Plus she slept so soundly. DD1 however was a heavy breather...she was shipped off into her own room at 12 weeks!!! lol

It's great to plan. I am hoping to start a wedding fund for DDs :D They are only 9 and 7 but I want to be able to help them out as much as possible :D

Today has been spring cleaning the house. Bleached everything in sight. Tidied, sorted and planned. Went out to a garden centre and got hubby's Nan a really nice hamper and my grandad a £5 garden voucher to put in his little box of treats I'm making him for xmas.

Went for a controlled Mr T shop using vouchers wisely. We didn't need to much. Lots of fish for the kids bought. Now awaiting BIL and SIL to come to ours for tea x

    Hey Happy!

Seems you have it all sorted in your head now :)

It is hard to know what to do for the best at times. I am just going to keep focusing on the debts until such times as we fall pregnant and then I will take stock and evaluate what is best to do. That'll give us 9 months of saving/sorting etc. Meanwhile it's all about the debts!

Realistically I think it'll take us some time as hubby works shifts/away and sometimes (if i've worked out when I ovulate properly!) that coincides with my most fertile time - annoying but these things happen and i'm sorry but i'm just not up for you know what mid sleep at 3am!!! :rotfl:

It is soooooooooo exciting though. I need to concentrate on my health and fitness now leading up to Xmas and who knows we could both be starting our new families in 2013 - how lovely would that be!!!!

    Choc xx
  • Hi choc, on paper i look like i make sense but sometimes i get very deflated that like you we have been at this game a few years it can feel never ending. Infact i berate my self at my own stupidity at times why on earth i allowed us to get such a big number of negative wealth. There is one thing my children will be taught to save and wait lol. I know what you mean re ovulation planning and things i find it easier to focus on one thing at a time i know it works better for me but then i have them hazy moments where i think i can take on the world lol lol.... i did some temperature measurements because apparently ovulation sticks for me arent reliable because of pcos and hormone changes. I am thankful however that i get monthly lady visits makes me feel like ive got a good chance, i am hung up on the idea of 4 kids i dont know why but i like the idea of a big family so i get very frustrated somedays when i see how much i have left to pay off instead of save up lol xx
