    Hey Happy :hello:

New day today, hope it’s brought a brighter outlook with it :)

I can (especially after my recent escapade) entirely empathise with you on the feelings of anguish in having debts which are entirely self inflicted, and all the resulting frustrations thereof. There can be precious little more aggravating than a lack of someone else to blame  ;)

As we near the years end it’s only natural to reflect on what has passed (and what is yet to come) however therein should be a balance; an appreciation of the wonderful as well as the less so. Maybe there is an element of SAD affecting your current musings, I dunno. I do know however that I am entirely in awe of how much you’ve achieved to date, over 20 grand paid off AND a wedding (with all the associated trimmings) accounted for to boot! Pretty darned impressive.

:T:D:T:D:T:D:T Round of applause for Happy :T:D:T:D:T:D:T

One other note re wedding etc, this was a big event taking up a lot of your focus. Once it was over your focus had to be directed elsewhere so, what wonderful, fabulous things have you got to spend hours mulling over and eagerly anticipating (to prevent all your thoughts converging on debts)?

Perhaps we focus too heavily on the debts we have? I know I am oft in danger of feeling the need to put life on hold until the debts are cleared, a completely pointless exercise really. In order to live well I supppos we need to learn to maximise the use of the money we have available, achieve contentment whilst still striving for more. Alas, for me this remains a theoretical practice as I find I have yet to perfect my maximising technique (£559 for 4 hours in KL may not be my best use of said monies to date :rotfl:, and the resulting paddy fit was hardly indicative of contentment :o) I trust you are faring somewhat better.

Am impressed by your new challenges and looking forward to following your progress.

    ((((Hugs)))) and best wishes :)

    Keebs xx
  • Morning all and keebs great post :) i am focused very heavy on the debts because i seem to be making plans and excuses as to why free cash can not be paid on set debts and by doing this i sent myself further back a few months when in the bigger picture the sooner i reduce numbers the sooner i can get the hell out of this place and start living better i cant start making plans as i need to go to bed but some tough decisisons need to be made :O xxxx

  • Hey Happy!

Just popping in to say hello and will have a good read later/update. Off to update my diary with events whilst work systems are down ;)

    Hope everyone well x
  • Hi Happy

Glad I have found your diary but sorry to find you down.
I think sometimes we can look around at each other debts and feel annoyed by differing amounts - those with less to lose you can feel resentful towards their feeling saddled by what, to us, seems such a small amount and those (few!!!) with even more you can feel almost superior to and feel it is all their own fault but stop - regardless of who you are, what you owe and how long your journey might be we are all making the same basic journey. The journey is marked with payments, achievements and disappearing debts but they are just the markers - the journey itself is our mindsets, we no longer buy things that are beyond our means routinely, if we are feeling down we moan in real life or on here but we don't hit the shops, when our friends/neighbours buy something fabulous we react with 'ouch, that would saddle me with debt for ages' rather than 'how quickly can i get myself one?'. We will succeed at this because we value ditching the debt above buying 'stuff'.
We will get there but who knows when and when we get there we will be very different people to the ones we were at our LBM. Our reaction won't be to celebrate our achievements with new cars but to have a small woohoo (OK lets be honest - the champagne will be out for a weekend!) but then we will turn our focus to our mortgages and actually saving for the things we want.
You will see the world, smiling at everything you see on your trip but your constant inner smile will come from knowing that you paid for this in advance with no demon APR on your mind.

If you are like us then this point is hard because we are trying to snowball but haven't actually managed to get our big debts into a ball yet but there will come a point when we have all our snow/debt balled up that all we need to do is get it to the top of our hill and give it that little push/payment to send it flying down the hill and knocking the last of our debts away swiftly and efficiently!

    Hope that makes some sense!!!
