Please goto the link, it is thought the extra payments in VAT the govenment will recieve will fund it.

The sales of cars in Germany under this scheme has gone through the roof!

The other thing is my OH's car died last night, we're getting married in August and obviously we're trying to save as much as we can, this would help greatly, in the meantime she can borrow my car!

I don't see the sense in this, the vast majority of cars sold in the UK are foreign made, this scheme will just transfer tax payer money from the UK to France, Japan and Germany.

It is expected that after taking into account gains from VAT it will be a net cost of £200m to UK tax payers. Why don't the government use the money to give say £1000 to each home in the UK to make their homes more energy efficient

There will be some benefit to car dealers.

Its not exactly green as making a new vehicle uses a massive amount of energy.

    Link? What link??
Yes I can see that http stuff, but if you want people to help by subsidising your wedding you have to make it simple.

Indeed they have. But most of the new cars that are replacing the scrapped
ones were not built in Germany. So the poor German taxpayer is subsidising
mostly foreign workers. What is to stop this happening to U.K. taxpayers'
money? Nothing! Because it would be illegal to ban U.K. citizens from
purchasing their new car from any other EU country.

Secondly, I do not agree that all cars over 9 or 10 years old should be destroyed.
My mate has just bought a two-owner 16 year old BMW 525i in immaculate
condition and running order, with 90k on the clock, for £500.

Well, my fridge-freezer packed up last week. I am very short of cash. How
about the taxpayer stumping-up some money for a replacement. They can
have my old knackered one and give me 20% of the cost of a nice new
more energy efficient model. This will also help refrigerator makers
    keep their jobs.

Also, my motorbike is coming up for it's 9th MOT soon. How about
helping me finance a new one? :j

    Thanks.

    Frank.

Most of the cars, we would be buying, are already built and sitting in giant car parks, here in the uk!

Frank, there are often savings to be had on new appliances, every now and again the energy savings trust do a promotion on purchase of A or A+ appliances.

Oh and buy the way Nissan,Toyota, mini,Land rover and Jaguar manufacture here, and that's not counting all the companies in the supply chain.

To my knowledge, there are no longer any appliance manufacturers in the UK, it's either China,Turkey,Poland,Germany,Austria and Italy.

But we're getting a bit off topic!

Thats odd as the vast majority of cars we buy in the country are built in foreign countries, there are a few models of vehicles eg minis, and some japanese cars that are built here but they are owned by foreign companies.

Neviboss, what make and models of car were you thinking of buying?
  • surely you can haggle more than 2k off any new car already

No doubt all the good deals will dry up in favour of this scheme (buying cars is like buying carpet, you never have to pay RRP.... EVER)

Does this even need one of these waste of time petitions anyway???
