Hi
You sound like an amazing mum!
I wondered if you had access to the Family Fund? I don't know if I am allowed to post a link but I found the site very easily on a search engine. I don't know if you qualify for help or not- I hope it is of some help!
Best wishes to you and your familySmoke free since 16th December 20120 -
Hi MO477
Just a few random thoughts before bed here!
I know you are not a single parent but in terms of the practical day to day stuff you are and may therefore qualify for some of the help that single parents do get.
Ask with any employers either of you have worked for in the past what welfare arrangements they have for their staff. I found out from my employer that there are benevolent funds that I may be able to tap into either now or in the future (subject to financial qualifying conditions) even if I leave the company.
School uniform, phew HOW much?! Ask if the school has any 2nd hand stuff they sell, the school our kids go to always has spare uniform knocking around. Possibly put up an ad in school (assuming they would let you).
What about charities associated with your DH or kids issues, can your sisters help you by trawling the net?
You have probably thought and already tried most of this. I hope it gives you a few ideas and have a HUG for all that you are coping with.Official Mascot and Chief Cheerleader for the 'Mortgage Free in Three' Gang0 -
Hi MOF77
(hugs) hun - you know where I am if you need a chat!
As I have said before and all these other lovely people have said too - you are an amazing woman and goodness knows how you cope but you do and you will get through this - you are strong, smart and a little crazy at times(LOL!!) but you will fight for your family and so I know this is just a blip. A big blip maybe but you will get there!
Will keep thinking but at the moment all I could come up with was- like another poster said - classroom assistant - would tie in with the children's holidays
- spare bedrooms - what about a lodger or bed and breakfast or exchange students
- work from home - what skills do you have that you could utilise - book-keeping, dog walking, computer work like directory enquiries -sewing, cakes for parties, childminding ( need to watch the regulations) granny minding (no not your own!!) shopping service for elderly people, taking in ironing (you have the equipment:rotfl:) cleaning jobs
- You need to watch where you look for work as you dont want to waste money on travelling costs.
- tell anyone and everyone you are looking for work - in your smaller area a lot of jobs are often taken 'by word of mouth'
- Def get DD's DLA forms done - I know they are a pain but remember they dont back date them always so the longer you put it off you could be losing out - and forget about them thinking you are a fraud - so what - you know DD's problems are not fictitious and she has an excellent consultant who will do his best when they contact him.
- If you dont already have one it might be worth considering a mobility car - you would then only be paying diesel/petrol - I know it would mean giving up part of one of their allowances but it might work out cheaper overall as you would have no upkeep/insurance/roadtax
- get ebaying - I am sure there are plenty toys and things that could be sold
- def keep a spending diary - its amazing where it goes
- can you get/do you do online tesco/asdas - it might be cheaper than using petrol to go for and it is def less tempting to buy extras
love n hugs
toots xxPeace will be mine
could do better - must try harder

Hi, I can undrstand that you want to work for reaons other than money but really, I think you have enough on your plate with all the visiting and appointments.
Although you children are young they still need you and they will soon grow up. How old will you be when the yougest is, say, 15 - 16? With the pension age going up to 65 and then 68 soon you will have plenty of time to earn/save/pay back when your children have grown.
Have you thought that if you work you will be so busy and tired that you wont have time to cook the 'meat and veg' type meal you do now and may end up buying more expensive ready meals. I really would consider trying to live on the income you have by going 'old style' and cutting back. May be your 'work' could be 'growing your own' which could involve the children to some extent (even if they only watch then eat like mine do) but it would be flexible and fit around the time you have.
I'm really concerned that you may be taking on too much.Doing voluntary work overseas for as long as it takes .......
My DD might make the odd post for me0 -
Hi Mumoffour, you are such an amazing person. I knew from your posts on flylady that you had a lot on your plate, but I hadn't realised quite how much. I've had a few thoughts, but I think people have said them all really.
I was going to say:
Have you thought of a lodger to go in your spare room?
Go to CAB and get a benefits check and claim all you can!
Do you qualify for a disability car? Then you don't have to pay for upkeep etc, just the petrol!
Do you have pre-payment prescription cards for the whole family? These can save you a lot of money in the long run as you pay a certain amount for the year, and if you get more than 3 prescriptions a month then you are in profit!
Do you have to buy your own bandages for your DD? Would the district nurse supply them?
That's all I can think of, hope it helps. I wish I could help more, xx"Snowflakes are one of nature's most fragile things, but just look what they can do when they stick together."
