Vegetarians and Slow Cookers

I totally agree with poster valk_scot, most things I made, stew, chilli etc had a 'slow-cooker'taste to them which is not apparent if you cook the same things slowly in the oven. You do save on the fuel bill though. If you're not cooking meat or pulses you wont save much. Could you borrow one from a friend to try out for a couple of weeks? Lots of people on MSE love their slow cookers but I just didn't like the results from mine. Back in the 1970's my mum had one and she made some nice things like beef stew, maybe some versions of slow-cookers are better than others? I gave mine to the charity shop and never bothered to find out if other models were better. It did make lovely creamy rice pudding with skimmed milk though!0

i wouldn't bother getting one, i love mine but to be truthful, everything i'v tried without meat i haven't really liked,
i use it twice a week in the winter months but just for me and the boys, dh is vegi and i don't bother doing stuff for him in it
i really think its worth it for us three though , i can stick it on and abandon it and even though i'm a really useless cook ,it always comes out edible0 -
What do you all think of something like this?

Tefal Rk302e15 8-in-1 Cooker
the 8 in 1 allows you to cook a wide variety of foods to perfection using minimal effort.
This is the bit i like most if it is true as i hate cooking.0 -

Seems great but as I can steam veg and rice in the micro and in minutes and/or use the slow cooker which takes longer I don't think I'd gain anything...but I do think it's a decent bit of kit!"A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy.
