I know the straightforward answer for most of you would be YES!
But,
I am a vegetarian who cannot eat beans therefore as much as I'd love to chuck ingredients in in the morning and come home to a nice cooked hot meal would a slow cooker be of any use to me?
edit: Forgot to mention, I don't eat potatoes either...0 -
Oooh, another one who doesn't eat spuds! There aren't many of us, I've only ever met one other in my 31 years!
Anyways, the question you actually asked! There are quite a few slow-cooking threads on here so a flick through them might be useful, or what about googling vegetarian slow-cooker recipes?
I eat a lot of meat but I cook it in tinned-tomato based sauces so I suppose you could do veg dishes in the same way. Do you eat quorn? That works nicely in a slow cooker, I often make half-chicken half-quorn to get two textures in.
Things like rice, lentils, bulgar wheat, couscous etc. don't do so well in a slow cooker but can be added cooked towards the end.Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.0 -
I haven't had my slow cooker long but have used it quite a lot . The only veggie dish I've done is a soup and it was tasty . There may be books or recipes online for veggie dishes for slow cookers . Should help you decide if it's worth it .0

Hi the-mango,
This thread should help you decide if a slow cooker is for you or not:

I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the replies together.

When I bought my slow cooker I worked out that it cost about the same as a decent saucepan. I really only use it for batch cooking things for the freezer. As you're a veggie that might be soups or curries perhaps. What I find most useful is that I can just leave it cooking without needing to check the liquids etc as my hob isn't brilliant for simmering. And it only uses the same amount of power as a lightbulb. If you can afford one and have room to store it, I'd go for it.0

Do you live near Edinburgh? You can have mine for free. I've tried dozens of recipes, all sorts of tips and tricks here and everything has this peculiar stewed undernote to it, unlike the same recipes cooked in a casserole in the oven. But at least as a vegetarian you won't have to encounter the pappy spongey mush it reduces chicken and meat to...

I think I might give it a miss for the moment and will do that, batch cook and freeze0 -
Check out Freecycle, they often crop up on mine (it's where my latest came from) and costs you nothing to try it that way.0

A large SC in Tesco's or Argos is approx £12 but if you are single you may get away with a smaller one for under £10. I like the one I have been using and I have hardly used it so won't throw it out but the other day I thought a smaller one may be big enough for one person and use even less energy so I bought it!
I'm sure there are lots of meat free recipes that could be done but your suggestion of batch cooking and freezing is a good idea and you could consider a combi micro wave that offers the additional options of grilling and an ordinary oven but being smaller food may cook quicker saving time, energy and money..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy.
