Don't want to be the only one to appear unsympathetic but he's 18 and not 8  old enough to be legally considered an adult and to make (and stand by) his own decisions. Yes, I can fully understand Mum's concern, but nowadays you are probably more likely to be in more physical danger stepping into a nightclub than you are kipping in a locked car. In fact, statistically he's probably actually safer sleeping in it than driving it ;)

Surely he has money or some means to pay with him, or did the car come with a full tank of petrol??. Can't he find a B&B or travelodge? or take a bus into the nearest town where there is one?, even if he has no means to pay for a hotel on him, you could ring ahead with a credit card and pay for a reservation in his name.

I think he could spend a week in the car and you still not find any affordable insurance because car and driver are far from a perfect match as far as insurance is concerned, personally I think he should accept he's made a big mistake, ask the sellor to buy it back from him at an offer he can't refuse and cut his losses and put it down to one of many of life's little experiences, then he can get the train or national express home.

There is a difference between the "registered keeper" and the "owner" you understand?!

We have already established OP does not have a driving license. As soon as they insure the vehicle they will either have to lie and say they have a full license (insurance fraud) or be honest and say they have no license or a provisional (either insurance will be declined or cost a lot).

And either way this would be insurance fraud as it is "fronting". But I guess this point isn't getting through so won't bother saying again.

At this point he could be just be collecting the OPs vehicle from 300 miles away because it looks like it has to be sold to someone else because he cant get insurance for under 4k per annum.

As for the OP not having a driving licence, sorry if I missed the OPs post stating that, didnt see it myself.

your son just bought the car today, the person who sold it to him won't take it back, thats tough, why not say take it back and keep £100 for trouble?
im guessing the previous owner hasn't sent the forms through the post to the dvla yet, so he'd still be the owner and your son just has to tear the forms up.

The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket.
