I can't believe the number of people saying the car should be insured in the mothers name. The only legal answer is for him to stump up the £4k

    Hi,

Could you insure it under your name & add him as named driver ... not sure that makes any difference nowadays ...

Apart from being fronting and therefore fraudulent?

  • It's group 11 car! A group 3 would usually cost upwards of £1200+ for a new driver

I know,he got thew quotes before he decided to buy the car and then the policy was retracted.Problem is what to do now.

Put it this way, if he's found on the road tonight he could have the car taken from him.

He could also get 3-6 penalty points for being uninsured, 6 meaning he'd lose his licence.

Buy the 4k policy, drive the car home, park it off the road and cancel it in the cooling off period.
  • Normally when you get a quote it is valid for 30 days or so, this has always been the case when I have been shopping around for renewals for my car insurance, then you can just log back in and retrieve your quote at the price originally quoted, did he get any quotes online? or were they all done on the phone?

He did them online first, searched loads of comoanies and for loads of different cars, the quote for this one was cheaper with More Than, then More Than phoned him to confirm the details. He chose not to take out the insurance before he went to see the car,I guess he should have. They told him just to call once he bought it and they would get that insurance set up for him then and there as quoted .It didnt happen like that though.

His Mam can get insurance in her name for his car, I am insured on a car which is registered in my partners name legally, he's a named driver only.

One other thing, he could have phoned to get the insurance before handing the cash over to the awkward buyer (I couldn't do that to someone personally and would have refunded) rather than before seeing the car, a lesson for next time.
One day I might be more organised...........

And pray to god that he doesn't have any sort of accident in the 300 miles on the way home that makes you liable for the £4k

If you read you'll see she does not drive. And besides, yet another post to point out this is insurance fraud, and known as "fronting".

Please explain why this would be fraudalet ...??

I don't think it would make any difference to the cost of insurance ... but I can not see how this would be fraudalet

Keith .... explain why the only legal answer is for him to insure himself ... surely if his mum insures (or father if mum non-driver) it & he is named driver, then that is ok???

My wife is named driver on my insurance .. are you suggesting that she is breaking the law by driving it?? Are you suggesting that when I took the insurance out that I was acting fraudaletly??? That's nuts ....

What is the difference between this person & my wife???

Obviously I am missing something, so please explain.
