Right, son decided to travel almost 300 miles to pick up his first car.It was the only one he wanted and he wouldnt listen to us regarding just finding one locally. It had to be that one.
He found quotes online and had one from More Than, they phoned hgim and checked the details and asked if he wanted to set it up yesterday before he went to see the car.He said he would rather wait until he knew he was definately buying the car.
So he travelled down there today, almost a 7 hour drive with his friend and bough the car.
Then he phoned to set up that insurance only to discover it is no longer available at that price. His quote was almost £900 originally which was expensive enough but now more than say they cant even insure him and passed him onto someone else who quoted £4k.
We have been frantically getting quotes from everywhere and none come under £4,500k.I did have one at £203 a month from more than but when I went to pay it vanished.
What do we do.

He is now planning on spending the night at the roadside sleeping in his new car and hoping we manage to get him insurance by the morning so that he can drive home.
He is 18 and passed his test 30th March,so just 2 weeks ago.The car whic h he bought based on the fact that he could get affordable insurance for it is a 9 year old 2000 alfa romeo 156 1.6ts 4dr saloon, manual.
So stressed that son is stuck in a strange place and very angry that insurance co withdrew the quote. He would never have bought the car if he had known this would happen.
He asked the seller if he would take it back as his insurance fell through and he couldnt drive it away but he said no."Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0 -
You could try the Day Insurance companies. At least he could get covered for a day or two to get him home and digest his mistake in slow time.
Google "Day insurance", there are loads to choose from. I've not used any so cannot recommend one. No doubt it will cost a fair bit for a short term but much less than thousands.0 -
I hope it's off the public road.0

What a nightmare I would be worried as well if my "child" was far from home in a car for the night. Just try to think of it as character building. Just thought what about a travelodge?
Ref car any chance he could trade it tomorrow at a garage?:jMay 2013 new beginnings:j0 -

just tried a few but the d.o.b option only goes to 1988 so not availble to under 21,s.He is only 18."Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0 -
One option would be to cover someone else on it to get it home, them travel to him to bring it back if the person isn't willing to go back on the sale. I'd have personally bought the insurance (at least paid a deposit) before collecting the car. Maybe he could insure it with someone else as a driver to reduce the premium? Then of course sell the car asap. Don't see many options unfortunately, a car transporter would cost a fortune to do that distance. One day I might be more organised...........

It's group 11 car! A group 3 would usually cost upwards of £1200+ for a new driver :eek::A MSE's turbo-charged CurlyWurlyGirly:A

was the original quote a fire and theft only one and not a fully comp? Seems a big jump
Ins group 11 for an 18 year old wth 2 months experience. Ouch.0
