I have to confess I'm a bit of a real ale bore and on the occasions that I do go out I will only go to a place that does good beer, not some bottled garbage in a 'cafe' and don't get me started on the term 'bar'.

The 'pub' is a focal point of village life along with the post office etc. My uncles pub in Ireland is also the post office and he also happens to be the local undertaker.

real ale. is that the stuff that makes you wear sandals and sprout facial hair? i filmed at the 1996 great british beer festival and i seem to remember there was a lot of beardiness going on.:D

i don't drink beer as it doesn't agree with me (a bit like a large section of the forum). i remember drinking some real ale as a teenager in a village pub maybe twenty years ago. hook norton i think. that was our local stuff. yuk! give me a sherry anytime. or a hot chocolate even better.

i also worked in the kitchen of a village pub as a teenager. revolting place. couldn't wait to escape to the big city. anyone who thinks country life is great for kids think again. it certainly isn't the place for teenagers. no one my own age to hang out with and a lot of narrow-minded locals obsessed with land protectionism and cultural insulation. land of hope and glory? well i can see why it might turn some to drink......

lets not forget that the local is a meeting place....the governmont doesn't like people meeting and galvonising opinion....the govbernment wants us all at home where they controle the flow of information.....

i don't remember seeing any revolutionaries galvanizing themselves in a pub. galvanizing themselves to make it to the toilet maybe. and the conversation all seems pretty establishment to me (property prices, who fancies who, what's on telly and some boring sh*te about football).

can i just say i would much rather see underage kids drinking quietly at the back of the pub rather than getiing out their faces on cheap cider on street corners like i used to and kids do now, extra custom and problem solved.
