fair enough if there is still an active congregation or active number of pub-goers. but are you suggesting if this isn't the case the pub and church should be funded by taxpayers to continue?

Contrary to this; I am suggesting that pubs and churches are the taxpayer.

This is one reason why I drink in pubs LESS. They are not family places and I don't want to go and find kids running about, nor do I want to be made to feel guilty if I happen to swear in front of someone's prescious little baby.

Totaly agree, I hate kids and they shouldnt be anywhere near pubs.

They should be in them cages full of plastic balls at Ikea or something

there are coffee shops and cafes that also sell alcohol. there are bars that are not pubs. many hotels also have bars. many restaurants have bar areas.

in a village with a population of say 200 (some of whom will be too young to drink, to ill too drink or not inclined to drink) how on earth can you justify keeping a pub open? i'm sure a lot of villagers would also like a cinema on the doorstep, hardly economically viable is it.

the point of living in a village is that you have less population around you therefore you are going to have fewer facilities. if you want to have somewhere to sit pay to have a drink other than your living room i suggest living somewhere where the surrounding population can support such a venture.

And I've never had a good pint in any of them !!!!. I have to confess I'm a bit of a real ale bore and on the occasions that I do go out I will only go to a place that does good beer, not some bottled garbage in a 'cafe' and don't get me started on the term 'bar'.

The 'pub' is a focal point of village life along with the post office etc. My uncles pub in Ireland is also the post office and he also happens to be the local undertaker.

I spent yesterday trying to get the local dog warden to collect a little wire haired terrier and by 5pm last night no one had phoned so i took him to my vet and you have never seen anyone so happy as me when we found out he was chipped :T but they had moved..we got there in the end and my little one was crying when we handed him back.. it had no road sense and would of been killed..
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

    good for you.

We get a few loose dogs, and I really worry for them. Especially wheel chasers. But we're a decent communtiy, and usually know which neighbour to call, etc etc. I do get a bit worried with some though...the poultry and so on. I get a little grumpy with owners of regulr escapees I have to admit.:o

Just found out my favourite 'local' is in trouble too. Genuinely sad. It's a querky country pub on the Yorkshire-Lancashire border, and I mean right on the border, the beam accross the middle marks it.

In case you were wondering, I sit on the Yorkshire side ;)
