It is a shame that great pubs are closing. There are quite a few lovely, old pubs near me that I'd be happy for the government to 'nationalise' if necessary.

I used to live in a place where we had 20+ pubs within 1/2 mile of the center (this is a small village)

Not one as closed (surprisingly as ones near me now have) but the town was basically ideal if all you want to do is drink alcohol.

How the little "locals" pub can compete with this I'm not sure.

3 bottles of wine at Asda for £10. And similar deals, it's not only the High St they are killing off. Not been near a pub since November and that was an after wedding do, no other reason. I think I read somewhere 30 a week were closing. About 20 years ago there were waiting lists for people wanting to run a pub, one pub was recently sold for £1 near Birmingham I think.
I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

They can't. I feel sorriest for people in villages, where the pub and the post office, and any other little shops close.

Belive me there are not any places you can have a pub crawl walk less than a mile drink a half in every pub and still have dunk more than 10 pints.

The only problem is you usualy have to start drinking at around 16 to support the local economy.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Our rural village pub is now a restaurant with a pub in the corner. Its ok, its not the worst, by a long shot. We have the cricket scores on the wall, and the locals use it. But for pubbier pubs I have to drive. Now....there's the problem. :(
