    Afternoon all

Hi Doelani and welcome - you will like it here! Firstly so sorry for your loss , make sure you get some "me" time in a busy house! I know what your house must be like - when me and hubbie first married we had 5 kids(I have 2 DDs and he had 2DSs and 1DD) lall iving with us at various times. It was only a small house and was manic most of the time (and very, very loud!) Now I just have 1 (DD2) left at home and to be honest I miss the mayhem!!! I know it can be hard with them all but make the most - it soon passes.

I have had a lovely morning - gasman came really early and DD1 had day off so we went looking at wedding dresses for her! She tried on quite a few in various shops and has seen an absolutely beautiful one that she loves. Her wedding isn't until August next year so she has agreed to look at a few other places to make sure that this is the one! Leaves me in a bit of a quandry now though - I really wanted to buy her wedding dress for her (she doesn't know this) but as I have told you before money is extremely tight for us at the moment as Hubbie is on short time. The thing is this dress is DOUBLE the prices of the others and I know I cannot stretch to that. I got such a shock when we found out the price. She said it is kind of what she expected to pay (ish) and doesn't think there is a problem as she doesn't know that I wanted to buy it. Oh well I shall just have to think about this.

So not much OS done today, ham hock is in sc (meant to put it on last night but forgot so it went on this morning!) and smells absolutely fantastic. Washing has dried on line as it has not rained and we even have seen the sun on a couple of brief occasions.

Hope you are all having good days ((((Hugs)))) to all who need or want them.

    xxx

Why not think about offering to pay for her veil, shoes, tiara, undies etc? Then you are still contributing to her outfit and not putting yourselves into too much of a difficult financial position at the moment, and if things change for the better then maybe you could give her balance of the money for her dress?

Hiya hope everyone is ok I have been a bit quiet again I have worn myself out a bit too much again.

O/S is not happening much other than keeping on top of the housework and resting when I can.

Enjoying being engaged and spending the day snuggling has its advantages.

Nic1lou1 - Perhaps you can take a photo of the dress, wonder out loud to your lovely daughter about how to best store it until it is The Big Day and then put money aside and get it a little later when you have been able to scrape together the money. Or in a month or two, when the main wedding season is over, could you see if the wedding dress shop will do layaway - if they still do that? It is so hard, you want the wedding to be wonderful, but everything seems so expensive these days. I normally rant about how expensive weddings are, but it must be so hard not to spoil a daughter on that day. I would have a lot of trouble resisting. :o I don't think I could put my money where my mouth was :o

Also, could you find a dressmaker to do a 'copy'? I don't know if they still exist. I had my wedding dress made by a dressmaker but it was only calf length as I was realistic about my chances of staying graceful in full length. I bought a roll end piece of material from Leeds Market and it turned out extremely inexpensive. The dressmaker I used just made something up from my description, and I was really pleased with the result. I still have it somewhere. No idea why.

Sunnygirl - so happy to hear your news.:j:j

Little bear is finally napping. I am not looking forward to when he discovers that the new bathroom bin isn't his newest favourite toy. It is sort of chrome effect, small, with a lid and a removable bucket and LB thinks it is the most marvellous thing ever. I should never have let him touch it in the first place. As it is I now have to rinse milkshake out of the inner bucket.

Not having a good day, but apart from that... Need to drag myself away from here and get some bin bags filled.

And you can tell I am more random than normal - I have just bought a pair of sandals - I don't wear sandals. These have really high heels. I don't have a tape measure in inches to hand, but these are 13 cms high and I have weak ankles (sprained too often). I can wear them for watching tv as long as I take them off to go up and down stairs. They do look nice, and are an utter waste of money. I don't even have the courage to take them back - I know most of the staff there and I would get a very raised eyebrow.

    Hugs to all.

    Hi again

Floss it is a good idea, I am just going to have to think about it I think, WS I don't think we would be able to get a copy made. It would take one heck of a good dressmaker to copy it - its not that it is to sparkly or anything in fact it is quite plain but there is oceans of material in it (I mean oceans!) and corseted etc. The shop has said that she can keep paying small (!) amounts monthly on it if she wants but even so it is a huge commitment. Going to have to give this some serious thought. When money is so tight it seems criminal to spend such a huge amount on a dress (other people might not think it is such a lot but believe me to us it is!) for one day but TBH she looked stunning in it and none of the others suited her half as well - I should have known when there was no price tag on it:eek: Ah well have to think on it:rolleyes:

Sunnyday thanks for all the advice re the ham hock - just taken it out and stripped meat off it and it is soooooo tasty. I will def be cooking one of those again (this weekend if Morries have any left! lol:rotfl:) Am waiting for the liquor to cool and intend making pea and ham soup tomorrow (well may just be the hint of ham coz can't see much of that being left!!!!!)

    Afternoon all.

I haven't posted here since before the bank holiday. Been quite busy, as and when health permits, had a baking marathon at the weekend - Mr LW was concerned about me doing everything all on one day, so did loads of preparation on Saturday - made up pastry and wrapped in cling film and put in fridge, grated carrots for carrot cake and put in a lidded basin, that sort of thing, and finished it all off Sunday, so as to only put the oven on once.

Weather is, as someone has already observed, pants, but we were able to get a bit done in the garden when Mr LW got home from w*rk last night. At least I don't need a machete to reach the bottom of the garden now!

Pasta & cheese sauce has been requested for tonight's dins, which is good because I can do that on autopilot, then off to a Mensa meeting this evening.

Doelani - I'm sorry for your loss ((hugs for you))

Nic1lou2 - I would second the idea of taking a photo to a dressmaker (or an art college), you really would be stunned at how good they can be - the material cost would be high, but you can always import exceptional fabric from abroad at a fraction of the cost.

If anyone is intrested I've just found the cookbook mentioned yesterday (the one with the garlic press and the three saucepans, I forget the title) in The Works bookshop for 3.99 :)

Pastryless quiche - I just grease a casserole dish and plonk the egg mixture in, stir through a tub of cottage cheese and and bake it until it is quiche like.

My mum and nephew have gone home now. Please can somebody explain to me how it is possible for a small child to spread a teaspoon of chocolate pudding over an area the size of a football pitch. I have cake in my hair.... :rotfl: Chocolate puddings will henceforth be known as Tardis dessert.

I fed him sticky toffee pudding when noone was looking. Well, if you can't be a good example, you have to content yourself with being a horrible warning :D
