One is in the sitting room and one in the bedroom, outside aerial goes to both rooms with separate cables from the roof.0

You'll find a freeview recorder for around £50 on eBay no problem0

The Humax is no doubt on of the better ones, but plenty of 'basic' units around. I replaced a VCR with a Digihome box a couple of years ago for less than £100. Looks a bit 'retro' (think 8-track cartridge players...) but will record one program whilst watching another, allows you to pause what you're watching and catch up (fast forward the ads). Doesn't help when all channels are showing something watchable (normally 9pm), but it's fun guessing which will be repeated...0

Asda are/were doing the Thompson 160gb freeview box with 1 months free movie trial and 6 months free setanta.
I haven't been this week so don't know if it is still on or local only - it's not on the website as far as I can see.4kWp, SSE, SolarEdge P300 optimisers & SE3500 Inverter, in occasionally sunny Corby, Northants.
Now with added Sunsynk 5kw hybrid ecco inverter & 15kWh Fogstar batteries. Oh Octopus Energy too.0 -
I had a Thomson box and while it was not bad it continually froze and I had to keep switching off and on at the socket to get it going again.0

So did mine, it ended up in the skip, replaced by my Humax, which is in a different league.
Avoid Thomson's like the plague.
( Do a Google on them if anyone has any doubts ).0 -
I have a Thomson box and it is noisey but when it froze I rang their custoner service who were very good and sent an exchange replacement inside four days.0

Hi, can anyone recommend a decent Freeview recorder for under £100. I've been researching all day and read a lot of mixed reviews!
thanks

Have a look at something like this:

Generally the humax is regarded as the "rolls royce" of set top boxes.0 -

Probably better to go with a twin tuner model so you can watch one channel and record another.
This webpage compares them all. You can then make your own decision.
Personally I like the Inverto, it's silent, reliable and has a 15 day EPG rather than the 7 days some other models have
