Fairly open question this so all answers welcome...
What's the best value Freeview PVR? And where's best to get one?
Note: best value, not necessarily cheapest.
Thanks in advance!

I haven't tried them all, but I've tried a few. I bought the Humax PVR-9150T from Richer Sounds and I am very happy with it (after I blew the latest firmware into it).
It's a capable unit that is easy to drive, while having some clever features quite easily accessible.0 -

The Humax PVR9300T is literally the only one worth looking at. There are many cheaper makes models even such as Sharp etc but they really are all crap!
The PVR9150T is same but with much smaller disc space so best get the 9300 IMO. I got mine brand new on ebay for £130 - faultless (after upgrading the software to fix a noisy always on fan). Great features. I stopped using my Panasonic HD/DVD freeview recorder the day I got my Hummy. Tha Pana is great but has zero functionality for timed recordings in comparison. I have 2 friends who also got one with same glowing results. It transforms the way you watch TV.

I agree wholeheartedly, just bought a Humax PVR9300t and it is amazing. I didn't have to have an over the air update as the fan on the model I bought is practically silent, perhaps it had already been done. Great buy!0

Another vote for Humax PVR 9300T. £179.95 at Richer SoundsNo free lunch, and no free laptop0

Hi, PVR technology is great when it works......
In the space of 7 months I got through 6 Thomson Freeview boxes with a hardrive, and 1 Wharfdale, after which I called it a day and went back to a normal one (can't afford a Humax at the moment). All bought from Argos. The problem seemed to occur when I started to store more than about 15 hours on the hardrive, it could not cope, froze, and then died..... RUBBISH. I lost so much quality boxing because of it
Oh yeah, one box lasted 3 days!0 -

We got the 9150T Humax and I don't think we'll EVER fill it... We've had it for only a month or so and already it has more stuff on it than we'll ever get through!!!
I really like it as a gadget - it's functional, clever and responsive. It does everything you'd ever want from PVR except make you dinner!
I got it from humax direct for £100 or so, it was reconditioned. It came as good as new, I did the update via my PC which was a bit of a hassle (I had to get a COM1 cable off ebay for £3) and then it was much quieter. It's still not silent when it's using the hard disk, but apart from that it is. It's totally a manageable sound level though and I wouldn't worry about that if considering buying it. However, the over the air update is only every month or so, so it's possible you might have to wait that long for silence if you weren't as bothered/geeky as me.
A couple of small gripes - the series link thing has cut the end off a couple of programs, the remote control - I'm getting used to it, but it could be more intuitive. Also I'd like to be able to see the info / in-guide picture and guide itself at the same time - on the humax you have to press i to get the info up (not like my old freeview box). I'd like to be able to see the prerecorded shows somehow without stopping the current ones too, and you sort of can but it's not done very well.
However, it will certainly see us through the next few years until we get a HD tv (if they ever make any channels for it!) and move to freesat HD / freeview HD or whatever there will be in the future!
And all for only a ton!
