How to get back on the credit ladder

  • Well, we don't have a landline phone in this house anyway thankfully. I was living 300 miles away from said address at the time of these cards being taken out...

You shouldn't have to wait until it's statue barred. It's not your debt so you shouldn't be punished for it.

When you go onto the electoral roll, you can opt to have your name removed from the public register. This will stop anyone trying to find you. It's also a good idea to opt yourself out from the public register to stop cold calling companies from getting your information and calling you every day for the rest of your life.

Mate you can't stop your name going on the register that lenders/dca's search though - you're specifically referring to the edited register, i.e. the one you and I can view.....

You're right, Statute Barred is not an option here - the OP needs to deal with this head on.

  • All fraud; someone's managed to open cards in my name in a house I moved out of years ago, and I'm being chased for it.

Exactly the same as me - well, difference being i've been incorrectly linked to someone with the same name and date of birth (spookily enough!).... thus i've now established I am the victim of ID theft - mine runs into 100's of thousands though!

Anyway, you need to be a lot more specific.... link me to your previous threads or spell out exactly what has happened cos its easy to sort out with the right help.... In fact PM me if it makes you feel better (keeping it private)..?
I've mentioned this a few times on these forums but am not really getting anywhere and I may just have to wait til it's statute barred.

I vaguely remember chatting to you in the past but not about this...? Anyway, statute barred wouldn't matter if its not your debt! I'll be able to get rid of it for you, if you spill the facts and be honest lol.... (what you're doing is a classic example of hiding from debts, thus I need to know if it is all fraud or a little yours lol)...
The only debt I actually owe is my overdraft, which I'm iwthin the limit of, and has no problems. I also have an internet contract (again, no probs with that A/C and paid by D/D so never late etc) but cannot get a mobile contract at the moment...I'm also not on the electoral roll due to trying to hide from some wierdos; once my name is legally changed, I'll put myself on the electoral roll. But I worry I'll never get a mortgage, car, or be able to get a card in an emergency because of all this.

Ok, what do you mean hide from wierdo's and change your name lol? Are you getting married?/Deed Poll? What weirdo's - like ex partners or you mean bailiffs / dca's?

We'll sort this for you if you help with the info, as I say PM if you feel better....:D

Well done on the JD Williams account! You can use it in any of their catalogues as well...... the limit will increase, you'll get more green [0]'s and before long back to mainstream!

Enjoy being one of the credit gang lol

Goody - lets hope that this time they act and listen! Bottom line, you ignore them now unless they are agreeing to what we asked for. As you've gone to the ombudsman and ICO you must let them take over and deal with them as and when they contact you.

I would think Cap1 may decide to fight this - but with the ombudsman involved you can be sure they will now have to answer your claims. They will also be directed (hopefully) to refund you!

I'm away from Weds til the end of the month mate so will respond when I get back - just be patient, nothing much will change in the next 3 weeks.... like I say, don't worry too much about Cap1.

Also, for the moment don't post too much about the case on here mate cos I have a feeling cap1 may have an account here! You never know, best to just be careful (you have my email addy dont you, just email me a scan if it's easier)....

    Chat soon

Well done on the default removal! Lets hope the ICO will kick some Cap1 butt!! :rotfl:

Coming up to three months since I attempted to get a credit card/current account, I'm looking at applying again. Last attempt I applied to cap1 for a CC, halifax for a current account and CC. Was only successful with the current account, and gained an overdraft which is now up to £6750 (wth I know..).

Now im wondering what the best course of action should be?! Go back to halifax and try a credit card again? Or goto Vanquis/Cap1?

Can i even do this after three months - i've heard i shouldnt apply again with more than three searches every three months but then ive also heard 6 month intervals??

Desperatly need a card now cant afford to wait another three months!! :naughty:

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe you have to wait 6 months before you reapply for the same card, otherwise they'll instantly decline you.
