Im very tempted to get one of these for home but hardly do much printing and wasnt sure, however now i hear someone say that it really is a beauty im again very tempted.

This printer is well worth it, especially since they are provide all 3 colour inks as well as blank and white. I purchased this for ocassional use at home and its also very useful for photocopying letters, etc. You cant really go wrong at £50! :j

Got my printer yesterday as arranged and its looking quite good.

I have tested it for photoquality by printing an A4 sized pic of my cat at close range and another A4 pic of my 2 daughters with thier grandmother to test it for naturalness and skin tone. I set it as glossy paper and it automatically set itself at photoquality and the results are great. Good as any you would have developed anywhere and as good as any I've ever had scanned at the camera shop too. The colours are really true in my opinion. I could have also set it to enhanced colouring and sharpen detail but I thought I'd try the ordinary first but looking at these I dont think theres any need for the enhanced.

The auto feeder is quite good too, better than I expected and I will use it(thought I wouldn't) Print quality is really nice and crisp even on lower settings. I'm sure I've got more to learn with the software but so far things look promising.

The only thing I would say is, that the scanning seems a little slow and the printing too compared with the one I've been used to but that really is no problem as far as I'm concerned as long as you have a good end result. I think the longer wait for the photo's at A4 size though is well worth waiting for to have a picture that lasts for a long time, I never expected them to be this good. I do have a HP photo printer already and this is better than that.

I would love to test the transcan bit but my computer is win98 and it has to be min win98 second edition to use this software but I'll be getting a new computer sometime this year with a bit of luck so I'll try that then

Also the https://www.cableuniverse.co.uk site mentioned earlier were really fast sending the usb. No pound shops near me sold any and the local computer shop were selling usb2 2mtr at £7.99!!! So I ordered the one from the cable site for 99p, £2.98 including delivery. I ordered it at 3:45pm and it was through my door the next morning so was impressed :)
    Thanx

wel I ordered one and scheduled delivery yesterday.. and was home all day... at 4pm I checked the order status online said it was wating to be dispatched - hmmmm ok caled Comet who said "nope it's definitely on it's way on a van somewhere"... ok waited till 6pm (latest delivery by time) and no sign of courier... called Comet again and they said that the courier had tried to deliver at 4:55pm.... Uhmmm NOPE I was here all the time and there was no card through my door. Oh well can't do anything until monday blah blah blah

Long an short is I have logged an official complaint, and demanded an explanation as to the statement from the courier saying they had tried to deliver it yet not left a card saying "you were out" or anything even if I HAD been out! In the end I had to drive to Aylesbury to pick up a printer as I need it this weekend (actually ended up buying a slightly more expensive printer as it seemed a god dea and better print quality :) It's the epsom DX3800 and only £20 more than the brother)

Have to admit that Comets call centres are as much use as a chocolate fireguard! No-one knows anything and won't say who might know etc. Complaints department just put you back through to the department you spoke to in the first place (not a lot of good when my complaint is about them being incompetent! GAH!)

    *sigh* Rant over :)

I was looking into getting one of these printers and looked up the ink cartridges on ebay. You can get sets of generic cartridges for about £8 plus a couple of quid postage.

I personally have always used generic cartridges in my old Epson printer but I realise a lot of people don't like them, so it might be worth looking up the price of the official brother ones before you decide to buy the printer.
