Toyota verso or VW Touran?

Isn't this just down to bad adjustment with the headlight aim too low?
My car (not a Toyota) when new came out the factory with the aim far too low, I just took it out on a level dark country lane one night and adjusted the aim height to sort it out.
No there is a headlight adjustment wheel and yes it raises the beam but in all honesty they remain very poor !! the Avensis is the same .
This is reported as a fault on the Toyota owners website0 -
Just had my ABS warning light on my 05 plate 1.9tdi Touran been told it needs to go to the dealers for diagnosis , which will be new Abs pump hope VW will make a goodwill payment.
In nearly four years of ownerships it's had
Faulty Crusie control
2 Clutch Master Cylinders
1 Abs Pump failure
Also advised flywheel is now noisey
Rear Brake Pads
Fuel economy around 50 mpg
I had a picasso before this and never had any problems like this0 -

I think the chap i spoke to at VW was called Richard thru there Customer Services, he logged my problem and asked if I was looking for a goodwill contribution from VW, I of course said yes,he then said that he would get back to me within the next 48 hours with a decision.
In the meantime I had already informed the VW dealership that i got it from that i'd also be looking for a contribution from them. I have to say the dealership were very good, so much so the service guy told me that another Touran had been brought in that morning with the same problem.
Initially VW said that they would pay half of the costs which I refused, they cameback the next day and offered in conjunction with the dealer a 90% discount on parts and a 70% discount on labour, needless to say I accepted.
I may have been lucky,I think they based their discount on the fact that I bought the car new from the dealer and that they have done all the necessary work on the car, servicing, repairs etc.
Its worth having a look at the Touran forum on www.clubtouran.net there are a fair few on there with the same problem.
With regards to VW recognising the problem they said that they were aware of the issue with the 05/55 models but have not yet made it a recall issue. The fact that as soon as i told them what the problem was they offered to discount without me asking for it.
hope this helps
Cheers
Thanks for the reply, unfortunately the dealership we bought from went bust a few months ago, so all consumer rights went with them!
I've been doing alot of research over the last few days ( including asking Touran drivers in the street) all pointing to a major problem with 2/3 yr and older models.None of my research is particulary scientific, but I'd say over 80% of drivers spoken to have had the faul. Breakers yards supplying secondhand ABS units have doubled their prices, and all dealerships keep a ready stock of them.
Sorry for stealing your thread a bit, you can draw your own conclusions, but we've had 6 VW & Audi's over the last 13 years and we won't be getting anymore.0 -
My friend has a verso and the kids dont like it, compared to my 7 seater grand picasso they find it cramped when 5 kids travel together. She has had the car a year and finds it lacks the space other small 7 seaters offer.
Another friend has a touran, and she loves it, spacious and economical, no problems in 3 years.
I have a 7 mth old grand picasso and love it. i have owned galaxy, sharan, ulysee, so this is the smallest 7 seater i have owned but i can carry around 5 kids comfortably and belt them all in easily.
I have friends with grand scenic, mazda 5, new touran and zafira. We all share lifts with kids often so have tested all at full capacity often.... and very smugly the grand picasso seems to come up as a favourite in many departments.0 -
We were in the same position as you, wanting a 7 seater, We looked at the Toyota Verso (I own a yaris and love toyotas), and the Mazda 5
The Mazda 5 swung it in our case though, sliding doors, which are fabby however its not a 'true' 7 seater, more like a 6+1 but suits us. We got ours last week just under two years old with 18k on the clock, so far are chuffed to bits with it.
Similar in size to the Verso but sportier to drive, I found. The boot is possibly a teeny bit larger than the Verso when all 7 seats are up but not much to it. The middle row slides forward and down with one movement, making it easy to get to the two in the boot. The centre seat folds away so it can be made into a comfortable 6 seater and brought out when needed.
Roof bars already on there ready for the inevitable roofboxif you do any camping trips like we do

MAZDA 5.
sliding doors. fantastic.
How old is you mazda? Absolutely great car but the Sport TDI is prone to a particular type of tyre problem that wears the insides of the tyres away unevenly and dangerously. Check the insides of the back tyres, and if you've got uneven wear then demand a realignment from the dealership. They are supposed to have called all cars in for this, but I know that this is patchy to say the least.
It's something you need to monitor permanently. Don't buy cheap tyres.0 -

I'd read about this too, in my extensive (obsessive) searching for a mazda, loL!
Its the 2006 sports model that have had this problem I'm lead to believe.
When we were looking for ours, we looked at a 06 Sports, it wasn't in great condition so we knew it wasn't for us - however the dealer denied any knowledge of the tyre problem. I reached over to the dash, pulled out the handbook and found evidence of 'severe tyre wear' at 11,000 miles requiring replacement tyres :rotfl:we walked away from that one!
Our mazda 5 is not an 06 plate, nor a sports model thankfully, lol! (I know you weren't replying to me tho)

My hubby checked a womans 07 plate last week and hers were doing the same thing. Mazda didn't even acknowledge the problem until mid 07 so I'd be wary of some of the newer ones still.0 -

Was it a sports model though? Ours is not a sports. Although I quite fancied one just couldn't push that far on cost :rotfl:0 -
Yep. sports TDi. Lovely car to drive. Perfect with the kids, you can pull the seats up with one finger and a baby under your arm.
But i would never buy another purely because of the tyre issue. I had a blow out on the Main A77, which is the glasgow - belfast route, full of HGVs, and the blow out was on a stretch bendy, downhill, nowhere to pull over, with 2 children under 4 in the backseat. Hadn't even done 8k miles at the time.
didn't expect to need 2 new tyres at 8k miles and all 4 by 10k miles.0
