Pigpen - re the drilling. My mum always said 'why keep a dog and bark yourself' so stuff like that is DH's area for us but I can do things if I have to or if i get fed up of waiting. It is easy enough depending on what your wall is made out of - is it a solid wall or a stud wall? You may need some rawlplugs and stuff too.

You also need to make sure there is no possibility of any electric wires where you're going to drill and a spirit level to draw lines to make sure the shelf is properly horizontal. Much easier to get a man to do it if you can. It'll be their fault if it's wrong then......

    I'm liking your style Soappie...
I hope DS sticks with GF for a bit as her dad's a chippie and therefore dead handy - and I have the barefaced cheek to ask for help.
    Results so far.
    1 bed repaired
promise of installation of loft ladder including repositioning of hinges on hatch
promise of installation of shower (but have decided to go for a full bathroom refit instead so have politely declined that one - I didn't ask, it was offered...)

    Afternoon everyone.

Been catching up on my flying.

    Backyard swept and drains cleaned.
    Hoovered right through house.
    2 loads of washing done.
    Clean washing put away.
    S&Sed kitchen and bathroom.
Been to Mr A for shopping.

I can do a few DIY jobs myself such as putting skirting boards on and plastering but have not used a drill.

Summermoon Happy Birthday to DS2 :bdaycake:
    Hugs everyone.
  • Back a bit late from HHC that ended at 12! Got distracted by lunch. Pigpen I am dead sure you can do it yourself but it will take twice as long as sweettalking someone to do it for you! You get get a battery powered thingy to detect cables and pipes, like Dr Who's sonic screwdriver...

    Gorgeous day here.
Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x

    Hello all

I'm back from my weekend away. soappie I realised I'd not arranged to pop to yours! I didn't really see anyone much to be honest, was just glad to have some time with my best friend. Am shattered now after a 4am bedtime on friday!

And the best news is that DH has done some flying for me whilst I've been away! He's dysoned the hallway and landing (wooden floors so gets v dusty), washed all the plants in the shower and cleaned round the ledge in the bathroom. very sweet of him as he's been busy working!

I don't think I'll manage to catch up this week and I'm away tomorrow morning early with work unti late night tues...

blueberry well just keep telling them to do things - dont struggle on yourself - I know its frustrating that they dont do it automatically but so long as they do it when asked.

Oh it's not that they don't do it automatically - it's not even that they don't do it when asked - it's that when I ask someone to, for example, vacuum the kitchen floor, I find that they've waved the vacuum cleaner around in a vague circle in the cooking bit and another vague circle on the other side of the breakfast bar. And thus there are still lots of crumbs and detritus all over the floor. I seem to be the only person in the house who understands that the vacuum cleaner actually needs to touch the surface of the floor in its entirety. Or that the cloth needs to touch the whole counter, not just a squiggle along the middle. Or that the sink isn't clean just because a cloth was swiped across it. Etc, etc.

And it's not like they've never been told these things, because they have. Repeatedly.

Rant over. I'm still sulking though.
