OS Daily Thread - Saturday 11th April

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Saturday 11th April. This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem.
Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Daily Threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good!

Morning OS friends! hi.gif

:easter:

Have not been great the last day or so - I know I mentioned that my sister had sent a message to say I was no longer to deliver gifts to my nephews but two days ago I had my first letter from my mother in 18 months and all she said was how great her life was and that I was to also stop sending gifts to her house for her or the kids. So basically all contact with my nephews is gone. Not sure how I will cope.

Anyway. Right now I appear to be coping by eating a lot and spending online so have had to try and put a stop to that. Spent silly money although I can tell myself they were in the sale and I deserved something nice.. Not very OS. Bought a new topper for my bed (reduced from £99 to £30) and a new duvet set BOGOF for £40. Also some things for the garden - purely ornamental so not at all useful.

Beth - failed with the hock cooking yesterday think it might be Sunday or Monday now depending on time!
LadyMay - Happy belated birthday honey - big hugs.
Sunnygirl - keeping your dad in my thoughts and prayers
Ruth - hugs for you too
Noahs - My cat had thyroid problems and she had to have an op, but we are lucky and it hasn't come back into the other gland and it's been nearly a year now.
Peyton - glad to have you back with us
Halight - hope you are OK hon
Moggins, Squiggles, Nic1 and Tru - *waves*

Made a huge rhubarb crumble with the FILs free rhubarb. Made it with Canderel as I am cutting down on refined sugars and it was delicious. Tastes even better cold this morning as breakfast! Quesidillas for dinner tonight I believe as we have some mince to eat up.

My OH is seriously considering joining us on this thread! He does a lot of the cooking and nearly all of the housework due to my health and though he doesn't always 'get' the OS way of life, he has been great in implementing things if he thinks they will save us money. (though someone should staple his wallet shut when he goes to Sainsburys... lol) Under his DJ persona he posts on facebook every day so I suggested he come join us here. So watch this space.

I hope you all have a good Easter weekend. Warm gentle hugs grouphug.gifto everyone who needs or wants one.

    Morning peeps

i woke just after 5 so my body clock is going the right way. I hope to make it until 6 tomorrow.

Dull and gloomy outside at the moment and it seems to have rained in the night - still too early to tell properly how the day will be.

The washing machine is churning away in the kitchen and the dw should have almost finished by now so my next job will be to empty it.

Diva - It sounds to me as if your family have planned this, for you to get the letter so soon after the message from your sister can`t be a coincidence. It will be very difficult but you must not let this affect you. If you do then their plan is having the desired effect. Huge ((((HUGS)))) for you, i really hope that you are back to your normal self soon.

I`ve just broken off from typing and come back as i forgot about the sausages in the remoska :rotfl: i`m terrible for doing this but i caught them in time so no problem. There are two ham hocks in the sc which have cooked overnight, these will be ready in another hour or so and i can "take them to bits" and get all the meat portioned up for sandwiches and the freezer. The bm has just beeped and it sounds as if the house is coming to life around me lol.

Today i plan to clean the upstairs including the bathroom that i should have done yesterday, make a sausage and onion pie and bake some goodies. Weather permitting i shall pop out and hoe/dig up any stray weeds that i find, i`m trying to keep them down so that i avoid a mammoth weeding session and so far so good.

Time for another cuppa and butter the bread for good old lincolnshire sausage sandwiches mmmmmmmmmmmmm!:D

    Have a great Saturday everyone.

    Morning everyone.

Work today. I don't mind the odd weekend working. Saves money anyway.... Had a great day yesterday as we went down the sis -in laws and had a BBQ. She bought an old quarry many years ago, and it's open faced and looks over St Michaels mount. So I just sat there talking and reading the paper, eating sausgaes and drinking cider watching the sun set.... Great.
    Back to reality and work...
Hardly spent a penny so far this Easter, which is good going. Mum has got the easter roast sorted, although I see that leg of lamb is a good price in most supermarkets on offer at the moment.

Waiting for the chicks to hatch now....

Friend across the road started his own pest catching business and managed to catch my mole this week. So no more massive holes appearing. Did you know that 1 mole can dig 1 kilometer of tunnels just by himself?

    Have a nice day...

    Morning :hello:

    SunnyGirl hug.gif

We were thinking about which cupboard to take out to fit the washing machine in, when I wondered out loud 'maybe we should put it where the dishwasher is..............no, that's a silly idea'. Mr tru said 'maybe that'll work, lets give it a go'. So I've got my own way (after being sprayed with icky radiator water, lol) and got rid of the dishwasher and he thinks it was his idea. Result :D We have a larder cupboard set into the wall, we've just realised (we've only lived here for 11 and a half years ) that we can put another one in. If the cupboards opened into the lounge instead of the kitchen, they'd be either side of the fire, IYSWIM. This means I can get rid of most of the units - I don't like fitted kitchens - and have a table in the kitchen, a huge butcher's block, shelves for my recipe books and old-fashioned stylee tins, and a rail to hang saucepans on.

Mr tru bought a load of meat, so I need to cook and slice the lamb and chicken, and cut the beef joint into four then bung the lot in the freezer. I want to make some hot cross buns too.

My brother is using a disc cutter to chop the wall out, the kitchen will be covered in brick dust. I'm his labourer for the day :D so the cooking will depend on whether I have time to clean the essential bits in between me running around for him :D I should be able to fit it all in

Diva - It definitely sounds as though your family have done this altogether as a deliberate means of hurting you - I'm so sorry hon its awful of them you don't deserve it ((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))) My DH had leftover cherry & pear crumble for breakfast yesterday morning :rotfl:

I've been awake on & off since 5 thinking about my parents & decided to get up at 6 & have some coffee. Thank you to everyobe for thinking about us all :A

Plans for today are to have some 'me' time watching Quantum of Solace with Daniel Craig as Bond, James Bond ;) I'm also making a chocolate easter cake decorated with mini eggs  for after tea tonight. Soup is on the menu for this evening with naan, which I'm having a bash at making for the first time.

Have a good Saturday everyone I'll no doubt be popping on & off throughout the day.

    (((MSD)))

Glad you have got rid of your Mole N9eav.

Wet and rainy here in Essex today, am gonna get dressed in a min & head off down the butchers as they were closed yesterday. Dont care what I get - will see if he has something on special.

If it looks like the rain will stop then will head off to North Weald Market, its about an hour from here & is massive. Apparantly there is a stall selling dog beds for £5 & that is what we are mainly going for.

Need to get chicken out of the freezer which will either have with wraps tonight or maybe stuff with cheese and wrap with bacon.

Normal housework and ironing to do, like the sound of your cake Sunnygirl so may try that later.

    Have a great day.

    Morning all,
I had DGD2 for 9hrs y/day and inbetween feeds, changes, bath and cuddles I did make the Easter cake but gave up on the HCBuns. I reduced the ironing pile and made a dinner for DD2&SiL2b for her to take home when she collected Charlotte.
I have to go shopping today, I hate doing it on a B. Hol as everyone seems to stock up with enough food to feed an army for a year, but we're out of milk, f&v, flour and salad.
If I don't have Charlotte later I'll get back to re-pointing the stone walls.

DIVA, You don't deserve to be treated like that, the only consolation is that you don't have 2 very nasty people in your life. It beggers belief that a Mother could treat her daughter in such a dispicable way. Shame you don't have another member of the family to mediate for you. (((((hugs hun)))))

SUNNYGIRL, I hope your M&D will soon be home safe and sound. Try not to worry to much, easier said than done though. (((((hugs and prayers))))

CELYN, I made a notice board with ribbon, I had a 12" square board and criss crossed the ribbon and pined the ends with coloured drawing pins, I needed somewhere to put all invitations to Balls, Partys and Royal garden parties.

    LADYMAY Belated Birthday wishes. _party_

SMOKY, I hope you enjoyed your well deserved holiday.

CANDYGIRL, Hope DD & DGD are doing fine and your'e enjoying being a DGM. :D

Still no sign of MIOLIERE, bet she's going stir crazy without us lot.

    Morning all

Hope we have a better day today weather - wise! Yest was just so grey and miserable all day and I am sure that it affects everyones spirits. It was a day of niggly(sp?) tempers particularly from DD2 here yest - and I was heard to mutter on more than one occasion that it would be easier being at work!

Diva I really feel for you. It is such a shame when you are obviously such a loving and caring person and your nephews will miss out too as I am sure that they couldn't help but love you!!! :A

We as a family have lost touch with two of our nephews after my DB had an acrimonious divorce and although they are now grown and and probably have families of their own I still wish we could see and catch up with them - we could pass them in the street and never know - it is all such a waste!!

SunnyGirl I hope you get better news today and have been thinking of you and saying a prayer for you and your Mum and Dad.

NoahsPM enjoy your day and recharge those batteries!!

Today I have no particular plans. I have an old friend coming late this afternoon for the evening - so I need to make sure that there are copious amounts of wine available (and maybe chocolate) as I haven't seen her for about a month and there will be lots of chatting and catching up to do!! Poor hubbie is used to it and just grins and bears it!!!!! He loves being surrounded by women really!!!!

Prior to that am going to try to get potted out in garden, lettuce, toms, cabbages and a few flowers to go out. Got a few extra plants from B&Q yest that I couldn't resist - just need to find space to put them now as I only have a small garden. Raspberry canes are really sprouting now - I am so looking forward to these growing as I really want to make the raspberry gin:D:D:D

Also bought a rhubarb crown to plant out - love rhubarb crumble can't wait to have our own supply next year!

Anyway hope everyone has a great day, ((((Hugs)))) to all who need them- will catch up with rest of news later

    xxx
